Dr. Andrea Tawney and the Paso del Norte Community Foundation hosted the third Power, Purpose, Plan: Fund Development session. During the class, 20 nonprofits focused on understanding the relationship between stewardship and cultivation, ensuring each interaction holds purpose and meaning. Thanks to an outpouring of community support, in 2023 the Paso del Norte Community Foundation provided over 4,300 new and gently used coats for migrants and refugees facing sub-zero temperatures at the turn of the new year, along with funding for nonprofit organizations working on the frontlines. We welcomed the Operation Noel Fund under our umbrella to continue its legacy of providing warm coats and grants to organizations serving children in need. In 2023, the Paso del Norte Community Foundation partnered with the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation to raise over $5 million to support the installation of Star Ceiling (El Paso) by world-renowned and El Paso-born and raised artist Leo Villareal in 2024. In addition to this project, we also partnered with the City of El Paso, to host a series of community meetings to receive input from residents on a potential 14-acre green community gathering space over I-10 in the downtown corridor, known as the Downtown Deck Plaza. In 2023, The Paso del Norte Community Foundation significantly grew our #CommunityofPhilanthropy with growth in funds, assets, and scholarship awards. The foundation welcomed 25 new funds, bringing the total to over 250, with assets reaching $39.4 million. Scholarship awards nearly tripled, totaling $729,593 from 47 scholarship funds. Investments were made in Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and La Nube. Partnerships with national foundations like Mellon, Ford, and MacArthur supported community arts and education projects.
