The Elizabethtown Police Department is advising residents that South Market Street between Plum Street and College Avenue will be closed due to a traffic crash. Traffic is being detoured and motorists should expect delays. Commercial Motor Vehicles should avoid the area due to the situation. Estimated time of the road closure is 3-4 hours.

The Elizabethtown Borough Police Department is accepting applications for the position of FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER. Applications are available either in-person from the Civil Service Commission, Elizabethtown Police Department Office, 600 South Hanover Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, or they can be downloaded directly from the PoliceApp.com website at www.PoliceApp.com/elizabethtownPA.

Officer Matthew Celsky Receives 2023 Lancaster County DUI Top Gun Award
Please join us in congratulating Officer Matthew Celsky for being among eight Lancaster County law enforcement officers to receive the '2023 Lancaster County DUI Top Gun Award' presented by the DUI Council of Lancaster County. These officers made a combined 172 impaired driver arrests in 2023 which undoubtedly made the roadways across the county safer for motorists. Chief Derek Koch, Lieutenant Jesse Schlotzhauer and family of Officer Celsky were in attendance for the ceremony held at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center (LCPSTC) on June 18, 2024.

Cooling Center Open - ECHOS
The National Weather Service in State College has issued a heat advisory for Central Pennsylvania until June 21, 2024 at 8:00 pm...the heat index is expected to reach 100ºF. The Elizabethtown Community Housing & Outreach Services (ECHOS) located at 105 East Washington Street will be opened to serve as a cooling center on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. PennDOT to Install a New Stop Sign Configuration in Elizabethtown Borough, Lancaster County
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a new stop sign configuration will be installed Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the intersection of West Bainbridge Street (Route 241) and Masonic Drive in Elizabethtown Borough, Lancaster County. The new configuration will install two new stop signs on West Bainbridge Street, making the intersection an All-Way Stop.
This new stop condition on West Bainbridge Street will be marked by “Stop Ahead” signs with flashing amber lights, as well as a flashing red lights on the new stop signs. The amber lights will remain in place for 30 days and the red lights will remain in place for 60 days, after which time the flashing lights will be removed. In addition, there will be a variable message sign (VMS) alerting motorists in the northbound direction of the new stop condition on West Bainbridge Street.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following local alerts on X.

The Elizabethtown Police Department was contacted by a resident advising they received a phone call from an unknown number claiming to be affiliated with the police department and seeking a donation for a campaign fundraiser...this is a scam and residents should ignore these callers! Please know EPD will not contact residents requesting donations...we encourage residents to never provide personal, financial or other confidential information to persons from entities, organizations or other sources that have not been confirmed to be legitimate. Please join us in welcoming Chief Derek Koch to the Elizabethtown Police Department. Mayor Chuck Mummert administered the Oath of Office on January 2, 2024 during the Borough Reorganization Meeting where Chief Koch was accompanied by his family and numerous officers from the department. Chief Koch comes to EPD after a 25 year career with the Pennsylvania State Police, where he rose to the rank of captain and was the commanding officer of Troop M which covered Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton Counties. Chief Koch has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and an Associates of Science degree in Business Administration from the Pennsylvania State University. Chief Koch is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command and a veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. As a long time resident of Elizabethtown Borough, Chief Koch is honored and deeply humbled to continue his lifelong calling of community service in the capacity of Chief of Police. We know under the leadership of Chief Koch, he will make a great addition to the department! A message from Chief Koch will be made available in the coming weeks.
