KOH23
The final few miles of our first race was in sight, but our anticipation of finishing the first lap and half of the course was looking to be a possibility. Leaving pit 1, we had about 80% battery charge. Everything was running smoothly, but as we entered back onto the hot course, we decided to run double low instead of 196-1 range. This instantly gave us more power but used more kilowatt voltage. Our and made this part of the track our favorite to come. allowed us to communicate with ease, and our gave us comfort and insurance that we were in the safest gear possible. We were counting down race miles, steady through the corse and within sight of main pit. But the harsh reality hit when we realized our batteries were dangerous low. ran her best and farthest EVER in her carrier. Stopping just at the base of Turkey Claw, we had to call the race. The risk of damaging our batteries was much too risky. We sat in the empty lakebed, watched the sunset fall behind the mountain range, and waited for our tow back to camp.
This experience was a dream, and being the ONLY EV competitor made it that much more special. We were rookies, underdogs, untested, and underrated. Husband and wife team, taking on the challenge of the unknown. And we wouldn't change anything.
We are thankful for our sponsors
who believed in our dream. And to our family and friends, who have been by our side, helped with our kiddos, and encouraged us to keep going! β€οΈ there is no way we could have accomplished this without you. And and Dave Cole. Our support and comrades during this week. None of this could have happened without ALL OF YOU!
Keep your eyes on #2412 as we push the limits and make a force to recogned with and hopefully with batteries to swap in the future! ππ

After 10 long, grueling months, our was about to hit corse. But, like most things with this unique build, we ran into some hiccups. Entering into Dave Cole's ranch after staying up all night we discovered that we didn't have a full charge π³ Our starting position was meant to be 126, but after our unfortunate circumstances we quickly decided to leave last in starting order. Putting as much charge as we could before missing lineup, we came to the conclusion that we would need to regenerate power to get to the starting line.
Being towed to regenerate battery is not the most ideal situation to start the day, but you do what you need to inorder to get to that green flag.
Lining up last , we made it minutes before leaving with the rest of the competitors. Within eyesight of , we said our prayer, took a deep breath, and left the line. Pure adrenaline rushed our bodies as we silently blew through short corse and crushed through the first 5 miles, until we didn't πͺ our inverter was quickly showing signs of struggle, and when we were unable to make it up the first Sandhill obstacle we had to stop. The only way to fix this issue was to re-flash the system. Something we could not do with the gear we had onboard. On the verge of calling it early, our co-driver made the decision to run back to main pit, get the LAPTOP, yes, LAPTOP π» to reflash the computer and continue the race. 10 full miles later and a backpack containing our saving PC, we reflashed and continued on. Honking, fist pumps, and releaf came as we crested the hill and made our way through the desert. 35 miles came with ease and some dust in the eyes π₯Ήπ₯Ή as we contacted pit 1 and cruised on in. kindly supplied their portable charging trailer for us to repower, and after 20+ laps of regenerating and 1 hr of charge, we were back on the corse. Only having about 80% charge, the next 30+ miles was a dream. Communication was smooth , the truck ran beautifully. Our and took the desert like butter.
Stay tuned for the final recap π

Part 2: We were absolutely blessed to not only have some of the best people in the community give in there total and complete attention to getting to the starting line, but the accommodations from Dave Cole was beyond belief. We spend the majority of the week at Dave's ranch, programming, reprogramming, and testing what we could at his property. Not only is he the founder of , but we can truly call him a friend and a fearsome support system for . Thank you is not enough for what this man did for us. Not to mention the crew for comic relief and insight for our future endeavors! π¦πΊ
Our first and honestly only real test day was at the poker run, where we did 34 miles of steady desert trail around part of the desert corse. We were luckily able to discuss with Optima the ability to utilize their portable trailer battery charging station for remote pit 1 during our race. Huge thank you!!! π Also, using their chargers at the was utilized more than once during the week β‘οΈπ
Before we knew it, we were in line for main tech. π³ After working late and early into the morning, we put in a minimal charge to get us through the line. We were unprepared for the 5 hour wait we would be steadily parading in while we went from station to station for final check. Once we finished all of our tech checks, we were extremely hurting on battery life. Limping back to Optima arch, we discovered that we would need more of a heavy hit charge than the traditional plug-in system.
This is when we introduced the batteries π
Using
We towed the in low gear mildly aggressive to allow a jump to the charge. Once we were able to have a decently minimal charge,we were able to plug in to our charger at Dave's Ranch. Keeping safety as our priority, we needed someone to babysit the truck overnight in case of any negative effects from charging. Major thanks to our friend Nick Coker ,who to stay up all night and keep close eye on the charge.
Stay tuned for race day final recap
First off, we could not have even been able to think about a recap without our friends at the endless hours of welding, filming, and constant encouragement, as well as therapy sessions is something we will never forget. The media team that they have created is more than we can ever ask for. Stay tuned as they start sharing our journey through their youtube channel.
Prior to week, just like most of the competitors preparing for the race, we were busy, endless hours working on the truck. Early mornings, late nights, and minimal sleep π΄ We ended up leaving 3 days behind schedule, literally running the truck for the first time 2 days before loading the truck and working on the battery box minutes before leaving.
We did EVERYTHING we said we didn't want to do. No testing, lack of run time, and not even sure if the batteries would charge!
Loading onto the truck was pure adrenaline and fear. There were more unknowns on this truck than we would like to admit.
Arriving into hammertown at midnight brought flashbacks to the year before. The sight of thousands of trailers and open lakebed brought a high of pure endorphins, and we were itching to see what this new could do. Major thanks to for giving us a place to camp and park our "conservative" setup ! Waking up the first morning, we instantly got to work on the truck.
Finding out it would be a successful charge was obstacle #1 . We are lucky enough to have teammate to provide us with the modified charging system to get the job done. Later on that day, we ran into our saving grace to the race , and . Everything about raceweek is owed to these guys! instantly knew something was acting wrong in the steering pump, and worked his brain to the limit to fix the gremlins in the prior programming system.
Stay tuned for the rest of race week prep to come!
What a week! π we can't believe that we came, completed the build , and competed in our first race . We are still riding the high of this last week and absolutely humbled to know that we have the best team behind us!
MASSIVE shoutout to for being our right-hand man throughout the ups and downs of this week.π If you are looking for a RELIABLE hydronic steering pump, this is the place to go. Absolutely no issues during our raceπ€
Also, with . Man, you did your work, and went over and beyond your call of duty to help us ππ From finding all the "gremlins " in the system, to LITERALLY laying on the ground between fence race line, and relaying to us how to reflash our system during our race , you are truly a blessing to our week and couldn't have done it without you.
Huge thanks to and . These tires and wheels performed beautifully π Our took the desert like a charm. Testing out these heavy performance tires and wheels on an was a delight and did exactly what they were meant to do π―
Our communication was perfect with our in our helmets and at pit. We were able to talk clearly and efficiently throughout our race! Not to mention for the tuning and replacement of some of our springs prior to race day. π you guys saved our butts!
We also couldn't have done any of this without our media and friends' β€οΈ you guys PUT IN YOUR WORK! Can't wait to watch our race documentary on our journey to Hammers . You guys put in the hours! πππ
Prior to raceweek, our friends and all put in there work to make this build and race possible.
Stay tuned for our full recap of our first race.
