On Tuesday, Jan 10 the Spectrum girls' basketball team hosted MCAA conference opponent Eagle Ridge. The Sting recorded a convincing 60-24 victory.

Leading the way in scoring was eighth grader Addy Ringold. Ringold made five three point shots in the game. Ashley Vetsch added 12 points and eight rebounds. Lily Carlson contributed ten points, five assists, and four steals. "We were able to get some younger girls some extended varsity playing time tonight and they really stepped up. Ella Annen, Claire Edison, Maggie Carlson, and Lela Burdick all played well," commented Coach Cory Hund. "We shot pretty well tonight against their zone and played solid defense. We have some big games coming up in the next week or so and I am very happy with where we are at.

Up next for the Sting is a big conference game hosting West Lutheran at the HIVE on Thursday. C-Squad starting at 4:00 PM, JV at 5:30 PM and varsity at 7:00 PM. Next week the team travels to Rockford on Monday, hosts Mound Westonka on Tuesday, and finishes the week with another big MCAA conference game as they travel to Legacy Christian on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Dec 19 Spectrum Alpine had a great first NWSC race at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wisconsin.

Sophomore Garrett Peterson placed third out of 94 varsity boys with a combined time of 55:45 on Storebakken. Brock Magrudder, sophomore, had a combined time of 1:03.78 earning 27th.

Senior Sophie Brenteson placed second out of 86 varsity girls. Her combined time on Nissiebakken was 57.52.

Spectrum's Alpine Ski team will have their next race Thursday, December 21 at Wild Mountain starting at 4:30 pm.

We are excited to announce that Scott Gangl has accepted the position of Head Football Coach at Spectrum. In addition, Parker Stockwell has been named Assistant Head Football Coach.

Coach Gangl has been teaching at Spectrum for nine years and has been on the football coaching staff for eight years. Coach Gangl is an important part of the school and football program. He is a highly regarded teacher and coach and has positively impacted the lives of student-athletes for years. He has been coaching his own boys since they could shoot or throw a ball and he offers 20 years of combined coaching experience. Coach Gangl shares that he has been happily married to the love of his life, Jane Gangl, for the past 26 years. They have had the joy of raising two amazing boys, including Parker who is a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota and is entering the workforce as a technical writer and Tanner who is a freshman at the University of River Falls where he is on roster as quarterback.

Coach Stockwell had a terrific athletic career at Spectrum and has worked as an assistant football and basketball coach for the past two years. He was a football captain and combines his passion for sports with a desire to help players improve. Additionally, Coach Stockwell works as a paraprofessional on the Spectrum staff.

Coach Gangl and Coach Stockwell round out a terrific football coaching staff who will be working together to build a competitive program that represents Spectrum with the best of academics, values, and sportsmanship.

12/19/2023

In a ceremony held at Spectrum High School on Dec. 18, Madilyn Smith signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Crown College. She plans on studying medical biology to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Our best wishes to Madilyn!

On Thursday, Dec 14 Spectrum athletes participated in their first nordic ski event while co-oping with Parnassus High School. The meet was held at Elm Creek in Maple Grove.

Spectrum's Hannah Boese finished 20th with a time of 12:55 scoring 81 points for the team. Spectrum athletes who also contributed to the team's points were Addie Dahl with 68 points and Lydia Frette with 44 points.

The nordic ski team will travel to Battle Creek on Thursday, Dec 21 for their next meet.

12/14/2023

On Tuesday, Dec 12 the Spectrum boys basketball hosted the United Christian Academy Thunder. The Sting showed a great defensive game with a final score of 96-43.

"The selfless and team-oriented play of varsity reserves and JV, emphasizing their dedication to creating scoring opportunities for their teammates," commented Coach Tom Terhaar. "The stats reflected this teamwork, with 34 out of 39 made shots being assisted by teammates."

This team effort resulted in a victory in the Spectrum boys basketball team's first conference game, marking a perfect 4-0 overall record and a 1-0 start in conference play. The Sting will travel to PACT to take on the Panthers on Tuesday, Dec 19. C-Squad will start at 4:45 pm, JV at 6:00 and varsity at 7:30.

12/08/2023

On Thursday, Dec 7 the Spectrum Sting girls' basketball team traveled to PACT to play the Panthers. They returned home with a convincing 72-36 victory.

Leading the way in scoring was Ashley Vetsch with 19 points. Addy Wallschlaeger added 14, while Maggie Novotny scored 12 and Addy Ringold 10. Vetsch also corralled 11 rebounds. Alyssa Voigt had eight boards while both Novotny and Wallschlaeger grabbed six. Ella Annen led the team in assists with four, with Lily Carlson, Ringold, and Wallschlaeger each contributing three.

"As a team, we are learning things as we go. We have a lot of inexperience throughout our lineup, but the girls play hard and get better each day they are on the court," commented Coach Cory Hund. "We definitely had a lot of positives tonight, but we still have many things to clean up."

The team graduated five seniors from last year's squad and only have three returning players with any significant varsity experience. With the win, the team moves to 1-1 on the season.

The team has 4 games next week starting with hosting Howard Lake Waverly Winsted at the Hive on Monday, Dec 11. They then will travel to MCAA conference favorite United Christian on Tuesday, Dec 12. They close out the week with a trip to Isle, MN for the Carly Bruske Memorial tournament on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will be against Lake of the Woods.

On Thursday, Dec 7 the Sting Wrestling team held their home opener against Mille Lacs, Milaca, and Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy.

Spectrum wrestled Mille Lacs in the first dual of the night, losing by the score of 54 to 24. The Sting then wrestled Milaca losing that dual 45 to 27. In the final dual of the evening, Spectrum faced conference rival Brooklyn Center/Concordia Academy. In this dual the Sting won 10 out of the 13 matches and won the dual by the score of 57 to 18.

"We wrestled extremely hard, and I couldn't be prouder of the work our team is putting in," commented Coach Justin Werk.

On Saturday Spectrum will travel to Minneapolis Edison for an individual tournament starting at 9:30 am.

On Tuesday, Dec 5, the Spectrum Sting girls' basketball team opened the season hosting the Milaca Wolves. The Sting fell to the Wolves 66-34.

Leading the way in scoring for Spectrum was eighth grader Addy Ringold with nine points, while senior captain Ashley Vetsch added eight points. Vetsch and Maggie Novotny each had eight rebounds, while Alyssa Voigt had six boards. Novotny added five assists and senior captain Lily Carlson had four assists and three steals to go with four points.

The Sting girl's basketball team will host Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted for Youth Night on Monday, Dec 11. C-Squad starting at 4:00 pm, JV at 5:30 and varsity at 7:00.

12/06/2023

On Saturday, Dec 2 the Spectrum High School wrestling team participated in the C**n Rapids individual tournament. 15 teams participated including three teams from Wisconsin and one team from Illinois.

The varsity team had three wrestlers who placed in this tournament. Ethan Schmidt took a second place finish, Addan Schmidt with third, and Henry Christopherson finished with eighth place.

On the JV side the following wrestlers went undefeated: Joel Warren, Pryor Deusterman, Emery Deusterman. Also first wins from Colin Connolly, Noah Soden, Landon Nelson, and Hallie Malenke.

The Sting wrestling team will host Brooklyn Center, Milaca and Mille Lacs on Thursday, Dec 7. The match will start at 5:00 pm.

On Saturday, Dec 2 the Spectrum Sting dance team competed in their first meet of the season at Hutchinson High School. The Sting took 6th for Varsity High Kick out of six teams, 5th in Varsity Jazz out of six teams, and 6th in JV Jazz out of eight teams.

“We loved seeing our teams out on the floor today for the first time this season," said Coach Melanie Aeshliman. "This gives us a great starting point and we are excited to run the score sheet moving forward.”

The Spectrum Sting dance team will compete next on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Albany High School starting at 9:00 am.

On Thursday, Nov. 30 the Spectrum boys basketball team hosted the Christ Household of Faith Lions for the Sting's home opener. Spectrum defeated the Lions 74-43.

Senior captain Blake Femrite led the team in scoring with 19 points and after early game foul trouble, freshman Cody Benson scored 16 coming off the bench to give the team a much needed spark. Coach Tom Terhaar commented, "the boys showed a great defensive effort holding the Lions to no three pointers made on the night."

Spectrum will hit the road to challenge Milaca on Thursday, December 7. The C-Squad and JV both games start at 5:30 and varsity at 7:00 pm.

Competing in her second consecutive state cross country meet, Sophomore Hope Beck placed 35th at the State Class AA Cross Country Meet that was held at the University of Minnesota golf course in St. Paul on November 4.

"Hope ran very well", said Coach Rick Peterson. "This was a tough course so the times were a bit slow throughout the field. I couldn't be more proud of Hope and her accomplishments all season long. She is a rising star and competitive with the top runners in the state."
