'It feels like I'm not crazy.' Gardeners aren't surprised as USDA updates key map The USDA is updating an important map for gardeners and growers picking plants and flowers. The new map shows the contiguous U.S. is about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the last map 11 years ago.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James released an in-depth report last week revealing how health insurance companies in the state are inadequately providing access to mental health care, exacerbating the existing mental health crisis. The report, based on a survey of nearly 400 mental health providers listed on health plans' networks, shows that 86% of them were deemed "ghosts," indicating they were unreachable, out-of-network, or not accepting new patients. The inaccuracies in network directories are worsening the statewide mental health crisis, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities, leading to adverse health outcomes, and increasing costs for patients. This issue forces individuals struggling with mental health conditions to choose between paying out-of-pocket, often not feasible, or forgoing treatment altogether. The impact is particularly severe for New York's most vulnerable residents, including low-income individuals, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and women, who are least able to afford the costs of out-of-network care.
