Take time to spread the word that Pebble is a terrible idea with catastrophic consequences.

Bill Reilly, who spent 27 years with EPA reviewing mines in Alaska for water quality impacts, said at the science meeting that the agency addressed a realistic mining scenario but added that the wastewater quantity in the assessment was underestimated.

“There’s an unprecedented quantity of wastewater – hundreds of times higher than at any other AK mines,” he said, adding that there’s no possibility for diluting that water due to the sensitive salmon spawning habitat around the Pebble site. Reilly also said any wastewater treatment facility needed to be designed to deal with peak flows (and rainfall), not average flows.
