[Image Description:
A drawing of a young Inuit woman wearing a red amauti, the amauti is a traditional parka worn by Inuit women. A child peeking out with a smile on their face can be seen in the pouch below the hood. The child is carried in the enlarged and extended back of the garment. The child is resting with their belly against the mother’s back. The amauti is red and decorated with marking in a ‘V’ style pattern at the neckline with colours of orange, red, blue, black and white . The sleeves of the amauti are also ordained with the same colours on the end of the sleeve. The Hood is white silver and fluffy. The woman wearing the amauti is peering over her right shoulder looking at an image of an elder woman. The elder woman appears to be lighter shading as her hand is holding the young woman’s arm and the elder woman’s hand is see-through, like she is a spirit. The Inuit woman has traditional facial tattoo markings and on her fingers. The intricate tattoo markings hold different meanings for each person, such as a symbol of how hard our ancestors fought for us to be here. The markings on the woman are 2 parallel lines making a ‘V’ on her forehead, there is a straight line under her bottom lip down her chin and 3 dots on each side of her cheekbones. Her fingers also have markings with 2 parallel lines on each of them. The woman’s hair is dark brown and pulled back behind her head. The baby behind her peers out with a smile and their little hand is touching the right cheek of the woman. The elder woman has silver hair with her hair tied in a bun in the back of her head a braid across the hairline starting at her forehead and behind her ears and tied into the bun. The elder woman also has facial tattoo markings on her face. These markings can be seen on her forehead similar to the young woman, a double line ‘v’, 3 dots on her cheekbones and parallel lines down her chin and also on her fingers. The elder woman is also wearing a traditional sewn garment coat that is beige in colour and looking at the young woman.
The words on the image in red lettering, state: If trauma can be inherited from one generation to the next, then so can love, resilience and wisdom. There is hashtag in grey lettering: ]

Traumatic experiences can initiate very intense emotional and physical reactions that can persist long after the event. These trauma stress responses can look very different.
Use Scaffolding
Break the skill/behavior into the smallest chunks possible, and practice those bite size chunks.
One of our favorite Connecting Practices is to USE SCAFFOLDING. We’ve have a few podcast episodes where we unpack ALL that means, but think about a skill you want your child to have (like cleaning their room independently!) then practice each baby step skill by itself (like making a list, organizing a task, following a single step direction, following a multistep direction). It takes effort and intentionality, but we can support our child’s growth over time!!
