Holistic skincare for the win!

Treating acne isn’t just about treating the infection - a primary part of acne care is managing the darkened skin spots left behind when a pimple has healed.

For this client, we have recently started an acne program using all . In 6 weeks the reduction in her congestion and cysts have reduced. Moving forward we will also be focusing to lighten those dark spots and as you can see on her cheek, in 2 sessions we have taken the discoloration down a lot. Her skin will look amazing by summer!!

Melasma (darkened patches of skin) can definitely be a challenge to treat. This client has had 2 treatments with me and we only made small changes to her home care routine so far. The darkened areas around her mouth have improved so much - can’t wait to see it in a couple months.

Indeed it is the famous .. from France, the is a skincare system. A deep infusion of vitamins after a deep detox, regular use does magic - reduces pores, calm redness in the skin, erases lines, reduces discoloration. It heals the skin naturally.

Cleansing wipes aren’t a replacement for washing your face.

Cleansing wipes are definitely handy for quick cleaning, but they don’t remove dirt, oil, and makeup compared to washing your face the good ole fashion way.

Wipes usually leave residues behind and can’t pe*****te pores as deeply as cleansers. They are not able to do any level of deep cleansing.

They often contain ingredients that can irritate the skin if not rinsed off too.

If you use them make sure to do a real cleanse before bed. Cleanse - massage the cleaner on your face - for 60 seconds to really get a deep cleanse going to remove oil, dirt, makeup, spf etc.

And oddly enough this chemical is in almost ALL drugstore and low-cost cleansers and even some midrange lines.

You might or might not develop sensitivity to this chemical but it is worth knowing about it. Not to demonize low priced skincare but there is a reason why some products are cheap.

Acrylates in skincare are used for a few reasons - they provide the feeling of smooth, soft skin (note I said create the feeling not actually repair the skin to make it that way). They are also used in formulas to boost how absorbent it is for the skin, and helps bind formulas together.

Exposure to this chemical can create an allergic reaction on your skin, most often on your hands and around your eyes. Your skin can burn and sting, and develop rashes. You might use the product for months with no issue and then, your skin hits it limit and starts to act out.

You won’t even think to blame the cleanser after you’ve used it for months, as being the cause for the rash on your hands or around your eyes.

“It couldn’t possibly be the cleanser… I’ve used it for months.”

I hear this so often but yes, yes, it can very well be the cleanser you’ve been using for months that you bought in Amazon. Many lines including Paula’s Choice, BeautyCounter, Vanicream, LaRoche Posay, Neutrogena, Cerave, Olay, Dove, Curology, Aveeno.. so many more.

And again, you might never develop a visible reaction to this chemical but you don’t know. Just because you’ve used something forever doesn’t mean it isn’t causing an issue today.

Often when clients transition from their existing home care routine to using , there is a period of dryness even though the new products are hydrating.

Why does this happen? The skin will go through this transition for approx 2 weeks while the skin pushes out the old products that create a spackle like layer that sits on the skin. After a couple weeks, the skin has purged away the old skincare and be ready to take in the new products.

What I do after work - check progress per treatment. While the results immediately after might not be insanely dramatic, after a few days, the results begin to show. But even immediately after the the results are really amazing. The small details in the ways it restores your skin give your face an overall refreshed look.

When we look at this client, this was her first iDerm and right after we see a significant reduction in redness - broken capillaries are less visible too. Fine lines really vanish and this detailed fine tuning takes years off. When you really look at her skin, the forehead as well, time is turning backward in the look of the skins health and texture

Melasma is a very common skin disorder and most often impacts women, especially as we age. Late 30s and beyond is when women tend to see it arise, less so than women in their 20s. My clients who are of Asian descent - Indian, Afghan, Vietnamese, Korean, Nepalese and more, these ethnicities have the highest percentage of it occurring. Some studies say that on avg, 80% of Asian women will have melasma appear.

What is melasma? To be honest, it still actively being studied. There is a huge genetic component for having it and it has recently been found that 334 genes impact melasma showing up in your skin. UV light is the next huge trigger for developing melasma.

Melasma, dark patches of skin, most often occur under the eyes - the upper cheeks and upper lip.

Managing melasma is a challenge but not impossible. It requires a very prescriptive skincare routine that protects the skin, reduces hormonal skin triggers, reducing melanin, and protecting from UV exposure.

Quick fixes are hard to come by but slow and steady definitely wins the race and yields substantial improvements.
