It's time for a good ol' fashioned #ThrowbackThursday! Remember that groundbreaking project that not only changed the landscape of aviation, but also won us an award with R&D100? We sure do! Check out this clip showcasing our innovative motor drive in the Ampaire hybrid electric plane. 👏 Why does it matter? Small planes like the Cessna 337 are notorious for fuel inefficiency. They are used primarily as air taxis in island regions and remote areas, transporting people and needed supplies. But the demanding task of flight is taken care of by two gasoline-powered engines - not so great for economic efficiency, nor for our climate. With this new motor drive powering one engine, it makes it possible to reduce the cost and environmental impact of these flights! This project wouldn't have taken flight without the incredible collaborative efforts of our industry partners. Together, we achieved new heights in electrifying aviation and continue to shape the future of environmentally-friendly air travel. ✈️⚡ If you're interested in learning more, check out this article on the Newswire: https://news.uark.edu/articles/63737/electric-motor-drive-takes-off-in-test-flight-of-passenger-hybrid-electric-plane #ElectricAviation #EngineeringExcellence #HybridElectricPlane #TechInnovation #TBT #pels Wolfspeed U.S. Department of Energy University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign University of Arkansas
