Custom cutlery for kitchen and outdoors
When they say just make something cool and I’ll pay you. 😍those are my people.
Pretty stainless kitchen knife in cpm154 with Blackwood handles red g10 liners and dozen layers of true oil on the handle. I kinda forgot to take pics so they don’t do the knife justice it’s a beautiful knife and the handle looks like it’s ten miles deep. This is when utility and beauty meet. Like a Lamborghini pickup truck.
I think this one is progressing nicely. Needs the pin and sharpened. Maybe a quick hit on polisher. I guess I’ll make a sheath to match with similar tooling to continue from engraving.
So I decided to carve the axe handle. I think I like this design a simple vine on both sides.
A friend asked for a kitchen knife and I was working on for myself and stopped because I got distracted by something shiny for several months. So I decided I would finish it for him instead. Apparently it’s been a while since I been in the shop and the spider’s decided to move it. This is cpm154 and Blackwood handle and red liners. I call it the Darth Vader look it’ll be s*x as hell when I’m done.
I have been giveb the green light to post the Christmas gifts I had been working on for the last few months. Some of them new styles and of course a classic as well.
French chef knife in Blackwood and cpm154 stainless.
Paring knife from hardwood and cpm154 stainless
Little paring knife in quilted maple and cmp154 stainless steel.
I wanted to make something Halloween related. Michael Meyers had the kitchen knife. I’ve made hundreds of them, I’ll pass. Jason had the machete, tempting but I have made a few already. The demon barber Sweeney Todd is the English boogie man, the character older children call upon to frighten their friends and younger children. Unruly youngsters are cautioned against misbehaving with threats of being attacked by Sweeney and served up as meat pie. There is nothing more scary than someone who wants to eat you.
Busy day 14 heat treated and in the tempering oven now. Where’s the ibuprofen at not sure which hurts more my back or my knee. Got a few hunters done as well as some neck knives. The hunters were clay backed so I have the option of having a hamon if I choose to add in the extra time and work to hand sanding up to higher grits. Either way they will be beautiful when done.
Setting up for the knife show this weekend come and check it out.
If you happen to be in town the weekend of August 27-28 come and see me at one of the biggest knife show in the Midwest. This year we’ll be at The Holiday Inn in Sunset Hills. If you are fans of forged in fire, come and meet a few of the contestants - all of them are awesome people and would love to meet you too - and see one of a kind handmade knifes for yourself. Lots of merchandise is for sale as well. Hope to see you there
I do not do much Damascus unless requested but I do enjoy it when I do. This is ladder pattern Damascus in the shape of a fighter. The handle is stabilized curly maple dyed blue and green. The sheath is hand tooled with colors matching the handle. This is one of the nicest blades I have made. The new owner loved it and is now one of the safest ladies on the block.
Waiting patiently for the temp to get up. Looking forward to trying some bog oak. Carbon dated to be around 2841 years old. This is oak that was submerged in water for thousands of years and the sediment leached in the wood and changed its colors. Some are solid black. This one has some grain still visible. If this works out I think I’ll try fossilized mammoth next.
I’ve been doing a lot of late night stripping lately. No not the kind I did to pay for college, Kate said I had to stop because apparently I’m ridiculous. My stage name was Cupquake they paid me to put my clothes back on I made a fortune. I’ve been wire stripping to get the copper. I think I have enough to cast the guards I want to make. Copper is one of favorite guard and bolster materials. It’s getting hard to come by at a reasonable price and if you want a thicker piece you may have to refinance your house. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have some guards cast to my liking. I’m off to work have a great day.
I did my journeyman performance test today with VJ McCrackin. I was very nervous and was even shaking. I had made several of these and improved my design each time then just duplicated my fourth design with all the parameters as the final knife. The performance test includes cutting a free hanging 1 inch rope in one swing, cutting a 2x4 wood plank twice and being able to shave hair afterwards and for the final bending the knife 90 degrees without it breaking. It did all of these with ease. I was worried about the rope chop as I struggled at home but as they say practice makes perfect. Sunday I spent a few hours getting the technique down. It went through the rope so well I thought I missed it at first. The next step is presenting five perfect knives for judging in Atlanta at Blade show. Getting the journeyman rating is a daunting task but doing so proves I make a world class knife and is a essentially a mark of excellence.
What little girl didn’t dream of being Barbie? I know I did. That spoiled brat had everything a convertible, elevator in her house, bubble bath, and a man that looked perfect. But we all know she was sneaking off to GI Joes house when Ken was at the tanning salon. The one thing she didn’t have was the Malibu chef knife. Made from cpm154 stainless, copper bolsters, pink bubble gum micarta, and Tiffany blue g10 liners.
Sometimes you just have to throw something together and see if it works. And I think this time it worked out great. Cpm154 stainless skinner with brass bolsters and hardwood handles. I polished the handles to 2000 grit then used a poly to seal and it looks almost like it’s glass. It has a custom etching just in case you forget what you are skinning when you use it.
No you aren’t seeing double… well I guess you might be but only if you see four knives. I made two matching chef knives and etched 279 on the blade as that is a special number to the customer. The knives are cpm154 stainless with cryogenic treatment. Copper bolsters and Blackwood handle material. It has a hybrid flat and convex grind and should be an amazing performer in the kitchen.
This is not a drill!!! No serious it’s not, it’s a knife. Blue backing this 80CRV2 blade after quench. Probably getting micarta handles. Not bad for only using one arm. Don’t worry though it’s getting better… kinda.
So accurate and a catchy tune.
It Cost That Much Cause it Takes me Hours This video is a reminder to pay the people you commission what they're worth and not try to get out of it like an a$$hole owo~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...
I am trying to patina my 52100 integral chef knife so people know what they are getting into with a high carbon chef knife. The patinas on chef knives can be works of art in their own right with greens, blues, and purple colors. I would like to consider this research and development but apparently according to my accountant I’m ridiculous. FYI smoked tri tip for dinner tonight at the Taylor Ranch aka chez Brads.
When I was deer hunting this last season a friend was helping me process a deer that I was lucky enough to harvest. He started using a filet knife to bone out the meat and it worked wonderfully. It makes sense a filet knife is really just a boning knife in the kitchen and that’s its exact job. So this will be my personal knife and be part of a set. The second knife will be a skinning knife I’m making now. It’s cpm154 stainless steel with copper bolsters and African Blackwood.
Mark your calendars so you can come and see some beautiful knives. It has moved to a new location in Sunset Hills Mo which is a very nice area. There will be several Forged In Fire alumni there, come and meet them and maybe even get a piece of their work. #
Gone fishing? No, probably because you don’t have the right filet knife. This one is made from cpm154 with curly maple handle and blue g10 liners. You don’t need to worry about this one rusting while out on the water as it’s stainless and will look just like this for many years to come.
I bought this handle material from my friend VJ McCrackin a few years ago. I have to say the grain is pretty darn beautiful. It almost has a chatoyant effect like a gem stone. Chatoyant… that’s a word right? Sometimes I have to have my wife help me sound out the big words lol. The pics didn’t do it justice so I took a video.
French chef knife in cpm154 stainless with a hollow grind and Blackwood handle with blue g10 liner. I had a little fun etching a design into the knife came out pretty cool I think.
Forged integral bolster kitchen knife tests 52100 forged integral bolster kitchen knife and some fun tests to see how it performs.
Brut de forge meat slicer aka the meatchetti. 80crv2 forged l, with orange micarta handles and g10 liners. Briskets will only mention his name is hush tones.
