Allie Herkenroder for Flint City Council

Allie Herkenroder (she/her) is City Councilperson in the 7th Ward in Flint. City Hall extension 3163

12/07/2022

Today we take a moment to honor the life of BB Nolden. As Genessee County Commissioner, a former city council member, and executive director of the Friends of Berston Field House, he was dedicated to giving back to his community. I am grateful for the dedication and wholeheartedness with which he served the Flint community.

Congratulations to all who won their elections throughout Flint, Genesee County, and Michigan!

Dear 7th Ward and City of Flint Neighbors,

I’m sorry.

You deserve better.

The behavior of two of my colleagues at last nights committee meeting was not only unprofessional, but also destructive to the future of this city. Members were pounding their hands and screaming at other members and purposefully delaying the business of the city for personal gain.

This is unacceptable.

I will continue to do the work for YOU despite the chaos from certain members who try to distract the public and make consistent conspiracy level claims over the actions of others. I, however, cannot do this alone. I need your support to hold members of this body accountable.

Come to meetings and make your voice heard.
Email your Councilperson and tell them the behavior of the few is unacceptable and harmful.

Together we can bring the positive change to this city that we all deserve.

In Service,
Allie

🚨BREAKING NEWS 🚨

In a 5-2 vote, the Flint City Council just voted to support residents by approving a $300 credit toward ALL residential water bills! This is much needed relief for so many of our city’s resident and I am proud to say I voted YES today.

09/13/2022

Last night, myself and some of my colleagues voted to uphold the Flint City Charter by appointing an interim City Clerk effective October 1, 2022 given the announcement of Clerk Brown’s retirement. The Charter does not outline a succession plan for the City Clerk and this council chose to take action so that our election process would not be interrupted, nor would the other duties of the Clerk’s office. Deputy City Clerk Davina Donahue graciously accepted the appointment and I believe she will serve our city and it’s citizens in a fair and graceful manner.

Additionally, a council president was elected to fulfil the remainder of the term which expires in November. My goal is to serve the City and the 7th Ward and that means knowing when my capacity is at its maximum. Mr. Dennis Pfeiffer was elected as interim president, and I will remain Vice President.

I look forward to serving with Mr. Pfeiffer and I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Flint.

Today, on the 21st anniversary of that dreadful day in America, we are reminded to honor the men and women who lost their lives in New York City, Washington DC, and on Flight 93. We honor the men and women who served their country in the War on Terror following the attacks.

Never forget.

Tonight the Flint City Council made history. Nearly 5 years after initial drafting, the zoning code ordinance was passed.

Thank you to the residents who worked tirelessly to advocate for this zoning package. Thank you to the residents who collaborated and provided input regarding this plan. Thank you to all the Flintstones who made this happen. History has been made thanks to you.

Pension bailout will save Flint millions but not right away 07/09/2022

Happy Thursday neighbors and friends! I wanted to take a moment to share with all of you some important information regarding our City of Flint and our finances. Recently Michigan passed a budget which appropriated $220 million to help with the retirement and pension plans here in Flint. Even though this won't go in affect until 2023, it means huge things for our local budget. It means that our annual pension funding has been nearly halved to $18 million while still reached the State minimum threshold 60% funding. It means that now our City now has more breathing space for funds, and we have guaranteed funding for the pensions without possibly catastrophic spending choices for the municipality. This week, Flint can look to taking another step forward in once again being financially upstanding.

Pension bailout will save Flint millions but not right away Flint officials are expecting millions in annual savings from a state-funded pension system bailout but the relief won’t come until 2023.

Ally is a verb.

Tomorrow, June 13, 2022, the Flint City Council will be voting on a resolution to declare June as Pride Month in the city. I'm proud to sponsor this resolution in solidarity with my LGBTQIA+ neighbors.

I would love to see fellow allies and Community members there to speak in support of this resolution. Public speaking beings at 4:30. I hope to hear your voice.

I biked to City Hall today and was encouraged by the friendly “hellos” I received when I rode past people. I was encouraged by the curtesy drivers gave me by giving me space as they passed me. And most of all, I am encouraged because the proposed zoning code supports bikers (like me and you!) by providing bike parking minimums so that access is available all throughout our city. Bike parking minimums are the only parking minimums I’ll support!

I encourage you to leave your car at home just one day this weekend and dust off that old bike. Won’t you join me?

A look at the not so fun side of public service:

Sitting alone in a parking garage at City Hall after having left a Council meeting the night before only a mere four hours ago.

This is when the work gets done.

Public service is not sitting in contentious meetings for hours only to be verbally berated and insulted by colleagues.

Public service is waking up early and staying up late to make sure the needs of the people are met.

I am here to serve, whatever it takes.
