A Eurasian Kestrel that I took in Eurasia
I can't make this stuff up. I'm writing an article in Microsoft Word about macro photography, and whenever I drop an image in, the program kindly generates Alt Text without my input. In this case, the result is pretty interesting.
Fact: You cannot drive to the top of the world and touch the stars in Iowa or Delaware.
Fun with selective focus in Crested Butte!
This scene will return in exactly 2 months, taken near Telluride during my 2023 fall colors photo workshop.

Mt. Egmont, NZ. I'm not there, but I was.
Wilson Peak on a particular dramatic morning during fall colors. This panorama is composed of 6, composited images.
Yep, still publishing pics from spring because I'm heads down working on something big that I'm trying to finish by Jan 1. This lovely Fire Salamander reminds me of spending cool fresh days in the forest around Wolfschlugen.
The Colorado San Juan Mountains are among the top locations on planet Earth to photograph fall colors. Bryan Maltais of WildernessShots Photo Tours will be offering an unparalleled photo workshop, sharing his favorite locations throughout the region to capture spectacular peaks adorned with gold and red fall foliage. This workshop will offer deep learning on camera settings, compositional principles, and, above all…fun! Check the link in comments for pricing, accommodations, and itinerary!
The Alpine Salamander where it occurs in a tiny sliver of Baden-Württemberg.
I found this mushroom family in the forest of Denkendorf on the first warm day after a long rainy spell. After I framed the shot, the sun rose high enough to light the mushrooms from behind, giving a brilliant effect.
In May, the wheat fields in the German countryside were bursting with poppies. These gorgeous creations make great subjects for compositions that are on the abstract side. In the region where I visit, they've gradually increased in prevalence as sustainable farming practices have become the norm
GREAT FUN photographing the Mountain Bluebirds feeding their fledging chicks in the wildflower meadows in the West Elk Mountains. The enlarged photos show what's for lunch.

Had the chance to visit the beautiful Emerald Lizards of Tübingen
A Red Kite patrolling the vineyards over Wurmlingen, Germany
Some pics from strolls through Denkendorf, my home away from home. It's a pretty average small town to which few Germans would make a special trip, but if you picked it up and plopped it in America, I think its half-timber houses and red roofs would attract tourists in droves.
While visiting family in Denkendorf, Germany, I was trying to figure out where I should go to get some good bird shots. Then this Common Buzzard showed up in the backyard for a few days. All I had to do was open the window. While here, it captured 2 mice, a blackbird chick, and a worm. And those are just the items I witnessed.

The is a Great Plains Skink, at up to 13", one of the US' largest lizards. Their size makes it easier to get a wide angle shot with the Skink large in the frame while showing its habitat. This shot has been on my bucket list for a long time. Got it n my drive across KS back to Colorado. I found about 15 of them that got away. Truth is, you can't get reptile shots like this unless you position them. Otherwise its just a shot of a lizard shrouded in grass. This one didn't flee simply because it was a cold morning. Reptiles are generally very docile, unaggressive creatures. However, in lieu of fleeing, this one repeatedly bit the crap out of me. Today i have a bunch of little v-shaped divets on my fingers :-)
Milky Way season is upon us. May and June are the peak months to photograph the MW in its rising diagonal position, and late summer to fall are ideal for its vertical position. Learn settings and pro tips in this cosmic post that I wrote!

The Bluebird saga continues. After their nest in the backyard box was destroyed by House Sparrows, the Bluebird couple readily started building a new nest in the front yard box. I'm very sorry for their loss and the energy wasted on the failed clutch of eggs, but this new location is spectacular for photos because it's bright, open and has a smooth background.
I was heartbroken after getting to know this Bluebird pair when some House Sparrows destroyed their eggs and the Bluebirds were no longer to be see.
This shot took what felt like a million tries. You have to focus on one spot and begin shooting on continuous high frame rate when a Bluebird approaches. The bird must fly through the point of focus at the precise moment the shutter actuates for a sharp shot.
