Hey! I’m Marissa! I started Haymaker Marketing as a side hustle, because I love to travel and I wanted more time to volunteer for nonprofits!

It’s turned into the glorious business it is, and most of my clients are Airbnbs and vacation homes looking to leverage social media as another stream of marketing (hello, booking directly, no fees 👏🏻).

Four types of posts that every Airbnb and VRBO host needs to avoid in their 2024 marketing strategy:

1. Screenshots of your Airbnb or VRBO calendar. Everybody, it’s time to stop doing this. 😂

2. Reviews with clipart reminiscent graphics. 🤦🏼‍♀️Posting reviews is great! However, you should put them on the second slide, so it doesn’t interrupt your grid feed OR create a beautiful slide in Canva with images of your property included.

3. Pictures of appliances. Ever seen a 5-star hotel post pictures of their mini-fridge or microwave? No? Neither should you.
4. Pictures of surrounding attractions without any context. See this picture of the ocean? It’s a 5 minute walk from the Airbnb. See this restaurant? It’s the best place to get craft beer in the area. See this hiking trail? In the caption is a list of 5 trails 30 minutes away from us. ✌️

Part 2: How the heck do you find keywords?

✔️Wikipedia: Search for your niche and look at the titles and headlines. Those are your
keywords!
✔️ Reddit: Search for your niche and look for threads with an abundance of comments. If people are talking about it, it’s a possible keyword!
✔️ Google Keyword Search: It’s a part of Google’s ad platform, but you can still use it for free.
