Sooo...even though I have probably sung this song, in public, more than any other song in the world...it wasn't until this past April that someone recorded it for me! Thanks Jackie Leibowitz and fam! I loved getting to sing with you and am so glad you were able to get there! And, thank you Seth Bisen-Hersh for the dynamic filled accompaniment. I'd never sung the song that fast...but I like it! You'll notice I'm grabbing catch breaths left and right...hopefully I did it justice at that tempo!

Trial of Faith was a wonderful experience, both at The Women's Theater and at The Barn. It was great to have time with the material and really be able to research the psychology that makes up a mind like Jonathan's. I'm so grateful to Annette Winter for allowing me to explore and find such interesting nuances I never would have found alone. We were supposed to have a third reading...but it was cancelled/postponed. I am HOPING I will be in NJ for it. If it's in February, I'm in. I really do love finally getting to play such an integral role in one of Mary Ryzuk's plays, especially her very last! How wonderful to return to the Barn after ten full years (Summer of '42 2008) and get to do such a heart-wrenching, raw, drama about the fragility of life with SO many actors, those whom I consider the best of the best. To finally play opposite my very best friend Kristen Schiano, on stage, was so special. I can't express how much that meant to us both, after 20+ years of pursuing acting together, and on her birthday, no less!I'll do my best to tag everyone! Also the one male Caucasian cut dancer...why do I have zero recollection of him being in the show?! R.J.? The theatre world lost someone so integral yesterday that it seems to be forever fractured. Marin Mazzie will always be a huge part of my introduction to and following my passion, in terms of musical theatre. It is paralyzing to realize that we'll never see her on stage again. I feel like I took it for granted...I'm so glad I got to see her in Kiss Me Kate, Man of LaMancha, Spamalot, Next 2 Normal, The Va**na Monologues, Carrie, Enron, and all of her various concerts over the decades. She was a beacon of light for the theatre community and will forever be a true icon.

So...it's been a minute since I've updated. I'm still Florida bound, but have joined HiGlass Productions, helmed by Ryan Hiers and Sarah Glassman. Not only did they hand pick me to perform in their recent concert, at 53 Above Broadway, they also asked me to direct their next show! I can't believe it took me THIS long to find a troupe of like-minded performers who actually push one another to raise the bar, with every word that is sung. More info on the Halloween show soon! For now, I'd love for you to watch my rendition of Unusual Way from Nine from HiGlass' Him Femtale! I FINALLY found an outlet to sing one of my favorite musical theatre ballads, written for a woman. I'd love your feedback!

SO...it wasn't a figment of my imagination! I DID play Bat Boy, after all. :) I'm so relieved and finally at peace with this show, getting to see it, on DVD, for the first time. What amazing energy this entire cast has. I can't wait to actually sit down and watch it...and share it with all of you! This was definitely worth 13 years of waiting for! Now, I can actually prove that I played the role...and that it wasn't just a really incredible dream! ;D

i can't even begin to tell you how much fun I had returning to one of my favorite shows, as a new character. I had an unreasonable amount of fun in this role and just adore the entire cast and crew. Congrats, boys and girls on a gorgeous show! Theater League of Clifton did it again!

05/11/2018

Tonight, Theater League of Clifton's The Fantasticks, directed by Steve Bell & Musically Directed by Jalm Vanamo, opens at 8:00PM. I'll reshare the event after this post. Fourteen years ago, I was just the right age and type to play Matt...and I loved every second of it. 2018, I'm way too old for Matt, I am kind of too young for the Fathers, I'm still a bit a green for Henry, and I'm just really not an El Gallo. However, when I thought hard on it...I realized Mortimer could literally be any age...and it was so much more about the physical comedy and the farcical layer he and Henry add to the show. I also saw it as a great opportunity to watch the stars of the show work and learn from their process. I am so happy Annette Winter and I were lucky enough to work on Trial by Faith @ The Women's Theater...with enough time to surprise her the next day as her Mortimer! We had such a cathartic experience as Frau Schneider and Cliff in Cabaret (easily leaving the theater, but not so easily mentally leaving Berlin.) Then, as Julia and Max in Lend Me A Tenor, I can honestly say I've never laughed so hard in my entire life. I don't even remember what about...because it was something new every day. They literally had to separate us during rehearsals! :-D Playing Max in Tenor and Charlie in Tintypes solidified my love for physical comedy...I'm still working and learning...but I'm so grateful to be able to get this role in my body and share my "Mortimer" with all of you. He may not be your "standard" Mortimer...but I do hope you'll like him! He is Roman...I mean, RomanOFF, after all! ;)

[BIG NEWS!]

TRIAL BY FAITH by MARY RYZUK

We all know I love jumping into a role last second. Something about the pressure and adrenaline of it keeps me on my toes and (usually) at my best. I couldn't be more excited to be joining a troupe of some of NJ's finest, most professional, and most talented actors this weekend, with Annette Winter and Barbara Krajkowski at the helm! I believe in fate...that's not news...but the fact that this role opened up, I happened to see it as soon as it was posted, reached out, and Annette thought I was already down in Florida! I'm glad I'm not, just yet!

That being said, Mary Ryzuk was always someone whom I looked up to and was in total awe of, the more I got to know her. Some of you know that Mary was directing Picnic at The Darress. Annette, Laura Prouty Kennedy, Chelsea Varga, Sam Salter, and I were in full swing rehearsing when the rights were pulled from us. So, Mary brought the leads in and handed us a script from her vault (I can't even begin to imagine the hundreds of scripts she put so much work into,) with leading roles for the main characters she had cast for Picnic. Most of the cast was on the fence...and I totally understood. Picnic is a classic...and I still am so sad I never got to see Laura play Rosemary and Annette play Flo. They were SO incredible at their callbacks. I had goosebumps all night long. I was so excited to finally be directed by Mary, in a straight play, in an iconic Paul Newman role, surrounded by actors who all had WAY more experience and were much more seasoned than I. Alas.

So...the point of this post is to say that I've been blessed by getting the chance to originate the role of Jonathan Grant in Mary's final play, TRIAL BY FAITH. This cast is unbelievable...and as I've been saying, I'd rather be the weakest link who learns from his co-stars than merely be "the star" of a sub-standard cast. The cast of TRIAL BY FAITH has no weak links! It's a dream come true to finally get to play opposite Ali Archetti! I can't wait to join you all tomorrow and can't wait to read with you all on Sunday.

More info to come...I'm still slowly going through the script...and loving it!

The reading will be at The Women's Theater in Lake Hiawatha. Some of you may recall the venue as "Allegro" 😉

03/20/2018

Wow! What an incredible opportunity for teens! I loved me some French Woods...but I'm really glad to see more and more options for students who thrive in various environments, depending on them, personally. I loved being in a bunk and being responsible to learn leading roles in musicals in about 10 days. That worked for me. This environment is totally different, but not quite like all the summer Music Theatre pre-college programs. I like the sense of family feels this place gives off.

I would LOVE some song suggestions for another upcoming cabaret I'm in. HELP!

All my Godspells 03/09/2018

I can't believe I haven't found myself in another production of Godspell, since! Thanks Joseph Schreck, Sue Chandler David Mannarino, and Mac McCormick for this show. Judas may have been my very last role in Godspell. We all know I never want to learn all of Jesus' material...so, I guess after doing two productions as All Good Gifts, one as We Beseech Thee, two as Judas, and one where I basically sang all of the male songs because it was a cast of actors and it was done intentionally...I may be done with Godspell. I still believe the director of my first Godspell, provided me with the most practical acting exercises that I still use today. It sounds silly, but I had never cried on stage before Larry Smiglewski's Godspell. When we were done with an exercise, I realized I had tears involuntarily streaming down my face/something clicked and it was a big step in getting away from the "singer only" stigma. It may sound silly to some, but I credit Godspell as a master class in acting.

So, once in a while you meet someone, while working on a show, who you mesh really well with. You realize that if you were to direct a show or be on the production side, this person would be THE person you would always want involved. Whether on stage or off, Jackie Leibowitz has proved herself, time and time again, that she IS that person. I was lucky enough to get to work with her on Parade in 2015...and we immediately clicked because she was literally the only other person, aside from Jessica Shure who was as much, if not moreso, in love with and in utter awe of that show. It really hit me when I showed up to help paint the set...and I kid you not, Jackie was the ONLY cast member helping the small production team (including the director) completely execute the stage design. I am so honoured and proud to have this gal on speed dial and can't wait for her to hit NYC and take it by storm. I honestly can't predict exactly where she will land...but I do know, for sure, it will be somewhere where all of her passion, drive, training, researching, talent, and beautiful spirit will be on full display and in action.

Do yourselves a favor and check this site out...if nothing else, the next time you don't feel like getting out of bed to go stand for hours, in line, at an open call...it will light a fire under your butts, seeing in gorgeous color, just in time to see her zip right past you.

The word 'proud' makes me feel I'm 80 years old/that I'm being condescending, whenever I use it. But...I know that she shows what I mean. Proud doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.

Get ready for a fun new partner in crime, Jennifer Ashley Tepper!
