Like Carl Rogers said: “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.” When you’re constantly working on what makes you happy, your thoughts change, so your actions, followed by how you react changes as well. Before you know it, you’re a completely different version of yourself.
It just takes one small step of getting the help you deserve. We’re here to support your journey when you’re ready.

Inez Beverly Prosser, PhD, was the first African American woman to receive her doctoral degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1933. Her dissertation research examined self-esteem and personality variables in matched pairs of African-American middle-school children with half the children having attended segregated schools, the other half attending integrated schools in Cincinnati. She found that black children from integrated schools experienced more social maladjustment, felt less secure in social relations and had complicated relationships with their families.
She spent the last years of her life teaching in black colleges. In 1934, she was killed in a car wreck after visiting family. She was instrumental in helping many black students obtain funds for college and graduate study.

National Black History Month has its origins in 1915, with historian and author Dr. Carter G. Woodson founding the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now known as Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). Through this organization, Dr. Woodson initiated Negro History week in 1926. Then in 1976, ASALH expanded to a whole month, and in 1986, congress passed Public Law 99-244. This designated February as "National Black History Month).
Did you know that Woodson chose the week of February that included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas?
We start the month off mentioning just a small number of African American writers. Do you have a favorite book that we didn't include? If so, please share so we can feature it this month!
Happy February everyone 💚
We all knew that January was just a trial month, right? *laughs nervously* Starting a new month means that we have yet another opportunity to set new, positive and meaningful habits. It's never too late to start loving yourself a little bit more 💚
