Halloween 🎃 is my favorite. Hands down. I still make my own costumes, do my own makeup, and dress up to go nowhere, haha.

Holiday traditions and celebrations are great milestones for documentary or some creative lifestyle photography. Many years ago I backpacked across Mexico with an ex who was from Oaxaca. It was an absolute dream, being a girl from Hawai'i and never having the opportunity to travel it was a monumental time in my life. Literally, started the journey in Tijuana for one night and then it was an unreal experience... I could write a small book about this trip. From ferries, to trains, and horseback riding...and mariachi bands and federales on the side of the road in the middle of the desert thinking about how if they kill us all, no one will ever know...yeah, that kind of story. Haha...

I honestly can't remember what city it was but I do remember running into our Japanese friend we had met along the way (he was on a 6 month trip across Mexico and the US) and the three of us decided to stop at a local bar, not a tourist bar, a local bar. Imagine, the scene, definitely somewhere in Chihuahua Mexico along the backroads of course, a girl from Hawai'i, a guy from Japan that barely spoke English, and my ex a 6ft half-Mexican Caucasian walking into a cafe/diner that was packed with a mariachi band playing and every single local in that cafe stopped talking and looked at the 3 of us like we were 'mad'...

I'll never forget that moment or the feeling. When I took these photos a few weeks ago that moment was all I could think of. So many emotions. This mariachi band was incredible. A perfect unique way to celebrate a family reunion and birthday celebration.

I'll be taking some time away celebrating another year of life 🙏🏻🙌🏻 I plan on starting on some creative projects, going to catch up on some reading, and hang out with my furbabe Luna 🐶 my poor little Lunabug had a splenectomy yesterday and she's not feeling 100%.

I couldn't decide which image was more interesting, so I decided to post both. There is so much happening in both of them, composition, contrast, and so much action.

Event photography doesn't have to be be drab and dull. Of course the number one objective is to capture the heart of the event whether it's brand recognition, speaker spotlight, or even a corporate all hands, there will always be some cool moments worth documenting.

It's always fun to do something a little different. Another local photographer put together some educational studio sessions and it was great to expand my network and meet like minded creatives and professionals.

Adam took us through various lighting techniques and allowed us to enjoy his great studio set-up in Boynton Beach and I'm hoping for another meet up soon. Marisa was awesome to work with made it easy to capture some great headshots.

I took a different approach while editing one of these sneak peek images of Marisa's headshots. I wanted to incorporate the film look and I love it! I forgot how much I love working in the studio and I need to do it more often.

I knew when I was with my family back home in Hawai'i last year I wanted to give my sister a photoshoot with my neices. It had been a very long time since I visited home and the girls will be off on their own in a few years. Of course my sister was game.
These photos are everything and my intention was to create an editorial vibe with a bit of attitude and touch of edginess. My inspiration came to life while shopping for outifts with my sister. Reminiscent of Liberty House ads (iykyk) with a twist of modern feminity but paying homage to a nostalgic period of my teen years.

Documentary vs Lifestyle. What's the difference? Documentary is not staged, you literally are documenting or recording while things are happening as they are. Whereas Lifestyle is taking documentary moments and then staging, posing, or guiding you to capture a specific mood, look, moment or vibe. I love them both equally and intertwine them on most of my shoots.
