A well reported but very sad NBC 6 news story by excellent reporter Amy Viteri about the arrests of individuals accused of stealing a funeral home owned by a 94 year old veteran with dementia. The Defendants allegedly entered into a senior assisted living facility where the victim was living and are accused of coercing him into signing over his business to them. The Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office and the Broward Sheriff's Office partnered in this criminal investigation and arrests! I got to rock my 1995 Western High School football jersey and had the best time doing the opening coin toss at today’s Western High School football game. I played football for Western and I remember so vividly the last time I walked out onto that field as a player! Thank you to Western’s amazing principal Jimmy Arrojo for inviting me! This is an excellent CBS Miami story by hardworking reporter Joseph Gorchow about how our Broward County Property Appraiser’s Crimes Against Property Unit along with the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department returned a home to the property owner and removed squatters from the property, including a man who has been charged with breaking into a nearby home in the early morning hours and going into the bedroom while the homeowner and his wife were sleeping. I appeared before the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to discuss our Broward County Property Appraiser’s proposed 2023/2024 FY budget. The video below is a clip of my request for an additional deed fraud position. I am so thankful to the Broward County Commission as they, along with the Broward Sheriff's Office, the Broward State Attorney's Office, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and so many others have been incredible partners in protecting our residents and holding criminals accountable for stealing homes.
