Sweet (safe) dreams, little one 🌙

Whether you’re expecting or just a few weeks post-partum with your first or second baby, you might want a reminder about the do’s and don’t’s of safe sleep. We know you’ll do anything to keep your baby safe, and we’re here to help ⬇

✔ DO put your baby on a safe sleep surface, like a crib or bassinet, in the same room as you for at least the first 6 months
✔ DO use a well-fitted sheet and firm mattress in your baby’s sleep space
✔ DO put your baby to sleep flat on their back, even for naps
✔ DO dress your baby in one more layer than you’d be comfortable in

❌ DON’T put your baby in a crib with bumpers, blankets, pillows or even stuffed animals
❌ DON’T fall asleep with your baby in your bed or your arms
❌ DON’T put them on their stomach or side
❌ DON’T put them in too many layers or clothes that make them hot

Finally, DO rest when you can. And DON’T worry… with time, patience and a safe, soothing routine, you and your baby will be catching z’s before you know it 🙌

One note: household cleaning products rose to the top of the list at the beginning of the pandemic due to heightened awareness around germs and possible exposure through touch.

So you or your child received the dreaded “positive” result from an at home COVID-19 test. Now what? If you have symptoms and tested positive, no additional tests are needed. Our recommendation is to stay home, isolate from other family members as much as possible, and seek care if symptoms worsen.

The new year is here, and we want to help set your child up for a successful and healthy 2022! One of the best ways to do so is to make sure they are vaccinated against COVID-19. Kids ages 5+ are approved for the Pfizer vaccine and can receive their shot in the comfort of their pediatrician's office. Meet one of our vaccinated kids below! ⬇️

Meet 6-year-old Jackson Mitchell, who loves all things dinosaurs, Legos and playing soccer. After getting vaccinated he shared, “I’m getting the vaccine so I can hopefully travel to meet my baby cousin in California.” He was very brave getting his shots and we love seeing his big smile afterwards.

His mom, Dr. Debbie Chavez-Mitchell of Atrium Health Levine Children’s Union Pediatrics, was just as excited for Jackson to get vaccinated. She shared, “We know having Jackson vaccinated will also protect our younger son. It is such a relief knowing both boys are more protected with Jackson getting vaccinated.”

Her advice for parents is to talk to your providers and make decisions you are comfortable for your family. As a mom and provider, she encourages her families to be vaccinated and helps answer questions that her patients and parents may have.
