4 ways to get involved with SPOT:

1) Being a community presenter at an in-person quarterly event or virtually at a webinar.

2) Becoming an Oversight Planning Committee to plan upcoming SPOT events. An application and interview process is involved. We are looking for 2 individuals to join. Monthly meeting commitment.

3) Joining Summer Conference Planning (once it resumes). Committee will meet monthly and more frequently as needed.

4) Hosting a SPOT quarterly meeting at your facility/providing a tour.

Some informal ways to get involved include sharing SPOT updates with your local team and colleagues!

Deadline for submissions is now extended to February 2nd at 5 pm!

Students, residents, nurses, fellows, faculty members, healthcare professionals, scientists, engineers, and other interested individuals are invited to submit abstracts for The Charles Morris Ginsburg Simulation-Based QI and Research Forum, scheduled for May 8, 2024. This will be the 7th annual forum, but it has a new name, honoring a visionary whose dedication and contributions have left a tremendous legacy with the Simulation Center. This forum is intended to bring individuals together from a broad array of backgrounds, all with a common interest in health care simulation quality improvement and research. Abstracts may be submitted for any project investigating simulation-based activities related to healthcare, healthcare science, healthcare education, and patient safety. Work that has been previously presented or published is welcomed in this forum.

Students, residents, nurses, fellows, faculty members, healthcare professionals, scientists, engineers, and other interested individuals are invited to submit abstracts for the UT Southwestern Simulation Center 7th Annual Charles Morris Ginsburg Sim-based QI and Research Forum on May 8, 2024. This forum is intended to bring together individuals from a broad array of backgrounds, all with a common interest in health care simulation quality improvement and research.

Abstracts may be submitted for any project investigating simulation-based activities related to healthcare, healthcare science, healthcare education, and patient safety. There will be poster and oral presentations and work that has been previously presented or published is welcome. Additionally, new ideas under development can seek mentorship via our emerging ideas section

Submissions will be accepted until February 2, 2024. Presenter Bio:

Jeanne Carey is the Instructional Design Specialist for Simulation at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to joining the center, Jeanne served as the Director of Simulation at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing (LHSON) in Dallas, TX and has over 12 years of experience in all aspects of simulation, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of new simulation-based learning activities, professional development of simulation facilitators, and simulation research & grant-writing. Jeanne holds advanced certification as a simulation educator (CHSE-A), a designation held by fewer than 100 individuals worldwide. She is active in several simulation organizations and is a contributing author for HealthySimulation.com. Areas of interest in simulation include: Observational Learning, Assessment & Evaluation of Learners, and Reflective Learning.

Cortney Graves is the Standardized Patient Program Manager at Texas A&M Health, Clinical Learning Resource Center. She has worked in higher education for 8 years, the last 4 in medical education. She transitioned into simulation in 2022. She has a strong passion for higher education, specifically medical education and simulation, due to the lasting impact it has on the students as well as the patients they serve.

Monte Gardner is responsible for hiring, scheduling, and maintaining the SP program in Lubbock as well as coordinating with our 7 other campuses to help them with hiring and scheduling. I collaborate between the faculty, coordinators, and the Simulation Center’s SP Educator to help train the SPs across all campuses before each formative/summative experience.

Carla Mosley
Manager, Standardized Patients Program
UT Southwestern

Ms. Mosley oversees the hiring and training of standardized patients for all simulation activities. She has more than 20 years of experience in the development and design of teaching and assessment activities for health care students and professionals to support the Medical School curricula.

Diane Ferguson

Diane Ferguson, BSN, RN, is the Director of the H-E-B Clinical Skills Center at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UT Health SA). The Center focuses primarily on Simulated Patient/Participant simulation. Diane has been in SP education since 1995. She has served on the ASPE Board of Directors in multiple positions and currently serves on the UTHSA LINC Simulation IPE Initiative.

Jeffrey Stout Bio:
Jeffrey Stout is a Simulations Technology Specialist at Texas A&M Health, Clinical Learning Resource Center. He has a strong passion for the field of simulation, consulting with colleagues and progressing his knowledge and skill set. He worked in healthcare and the public safety industry for 10 years before transitioning into the Simulation world. Through his experience he has learned that he loves medical education.

Cortney Graves Bio:

Bruce Williams Bio:
Bruce comes to the Texas A&M Health by way of Indiana and Kentucky. He is in his 26th year of being a healthcare professional and 15th year of healthcare simulation education and administration. Educationally he has completed 3 degrees in nursing with additional degrees in computer aided industrial drafting and occupational safety management. Bruce’s work experiences include the intensive care unit, emergency departments, flight and ground transport, prehospital fire/EMS, occupational medicine, organ donation and academia. He has worked at all levels within simulation and has a true passion for improving quality and safety. Bruce’s variety of work experiences allow a strong base to innovatively and creatively collaborate with faculty to engage learners at all levels.
