Hear from Lauren about mental health in the homeless population! While it isn't the leading cause of homelessness, 30% of the homeless population does report having a mental health condition. Learn more about our great partner agencies (My Health My Resources of Tarrant County, Recovery Resource Council, and JPS Health Network) who do serve those indivuals experiencing homelessness who have mental health or substance use issues.
This week, Lauren talks about some of the challenges facing people experiencing homelessness have during a job search, why people who have jobs can still be homeless, and some of the programs our partners offer to help with employment.

Let's talk more about this week's myth! Elected officials play an important role in our community’s response to homelessness. Elected officials sit on what we call our Leadership Council to help set the strategic direction for our community. It takes a coordianted effort from all backgrounds to make a difference for our neighbors experiencing homelessness, and we are very thankful to have elected officials that care about the issue of homelessness and want to be part of the solution!

Though it is true that we do have great collaboration for services in Tarrant County, the myth that folks come over from somewhere outside of our community is not. In fact, on the night of our 2021 Point in Time Count, 91% of our population reported living in Tarrant County prior to experiencing homelessness. Tune in with Lauren to hear more!
