Starting Big, But Fizzling Out
Ever been excited to start something big but then let it fizzle out halfway? Happens more often than you think, according to Robin Robins, founder and CEO of MSP Success and TMT. Think about it: how many times have companies come up with brilliant ideas, invested time and money in generating leads, or launched shiny new websites, only to abandon them halfway through? The real problem isn’t starting; it’s following through.
Consistent Action Wins
In business, success doesn’t come from chasing every new idea or “shiny penny.” It comes from sticking to the basics and consistently implementing what you know works. Too often, we get distracted by something new or more exciting and forget about the fundamentals. That's where most people go wrong. It’s tempting to jump from one idea to the next, but real progress happens when you stay focused on proven systems and follow through.
To do that, you need to be hands-on. Even the best employees can drift off-course. You can’t just hand out tasks and expect everything to magically run smoothly. When I want something done in my business, I make sure I’m meeting regularly, asking for updates, and constantly checking in. If I don’t stay on top of it, things either get done too slowly or, worse, not at all.
Be a Leader Who Sticks With It
At the end of the day, your success as a leader comes down to your ability to follow through. Document everything—goals, meetings, tasks—so you know what needs to happen and when. Hold people accountable for hitting deadlines, and if they don’t, it’s time to move on. Hire better, fire faster, and make sure you’re setting the example by following through on your own tasks. Be the leader that sticks with things and gets results, not the one who starts strong but loses steam.
And always remember the Russian proverb: “Trust, but verify.” It’s great to trust your team, but you still need to check that they’re doing what needs to be done. That’s how you make sure your business doesn’t just start things—it finishes them.

What MSPs Should Know About Cloud Detection and Response
Cloud Detection and Response (CDR) is becoming a crucial component of modern cybersecurity. Unlike other detection and response solutions (like EDR or MDR), CDR focuses on securing cloud environments.
Forrester defines CDR as: “The detection of and response to cyberattacks on detection surfaces in the cloud control plane, data plane, and management plane. This includes one or more cloud-native tools that prioritize security analyst experience for high-quality detection, complete investigation, and fast and effective response to cloud attacks.”
While it’s not a single solution, it combines technologies like CASB, SIEM, and CNAPP to protect cloud infrastructures.
Here are a few things MSPs need to know about CDR:
1. Bad Actors Are Making CDR Increasingly Important. Cloud resources are a key target, with attacks on SaaS applications (31%), cloud storage (30%), and cloud management infrastructure (26%). Phishing is a common tactic to steal SaaS credentials.
2. CDR Solutions Reduce Manual Intervention. Cloud incident response is time-sensitive and complex. CDR automates tasks like isolating compromised instances and alerting teams, reducing human error and speeding up containment.
While CDR isn't officially recognized as its own market category yet, many MSPs are already implementing it within their existing security solutions. As businesses shift further into cloud environments, MSPs must adopt CDR to stay ahead of growing threats and future compliance requirements.
