Tulu means "long-haired" in Turkish. These rugs were traditionally made for warmth and sleep, and they are soft, colourful, and shiny. Antique Tulu rugs are considered some of the most beautiful textile creations in the world, and they are known for their artistic details and luscious texture. They were handmade using the Ghiordes knotting style. Tulu rug patterns are unique, often featuring plain or vintage designs with a solid or plain centrepiece. These rugs usually combine vibrant and earthy tones to create balance. This gorgeous rug is set in a black raven tone, unique even in vintage Tulu rugs.
Tulu rugs' artistry often reflects the region's unique geography and terrain, incorporating intricate floral and vine patterns. Some Tulu rugs even feature oatmeal-coloured fields at their centres, symbolising the beauty of the plains of Karapinar and the majestic surrounding mountains.🖤
The vintage rug was meticulously crafted using the highest-quality wool and adhering to traditional and intricate weaving methods dating back to the Middle Ages. The Rya style, originating in Scandinavia centuries ago, was designed to shield individuals, particularly seafarers, from harsh weather. Despite its rich historical background, the antique rug boasts an undeniably modern design that aligns with the aesthetic trends of the 1950s.
The Beshir rugs have a long-standing reputation for creating unique rugs in the Khanate of Bokhara. Their vibrant colours, large motifs, and stylised flowers distinguish their rugs. The Beshirs, a part of the Ersari group of Turkoman people, were resettled in the Amu Darya region in the 17th century. These intricately crafted rugs typically feature repeating patterns with natural imagery. What makes them truly special are their vivid colours and dynamic designs, which set them apart from other Turkoman rugs.
This image showcases the interior of an antique Anatolian tent. The earlier tents used by Anatolian Turkmen in Turkey followed the round Central Asian tent style. These tents consisted of two main parts: Derim Evi and Topak Ev. The lower part comprises four collapsible walls from light willow sticks attached to a diamond-shaped frame. These walls, called denim, could be folded or put together. The upper part consisted of longbow-shaped sticks attached to the top edges of the denim and fixed on a wooden circle called the tünlük. The bow-shaped sticks are known as uğ. The wooden parts were secured using long warp-faced weavings called tent bands.
Turkmen rugs, or Turkomen, are highly valued for their intricate geometric patterns and striking colours. They are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the nomadic Turkmen tribes from Central Asia. Their traditional artistry makes these rugs a unique and captivating addition to any home decor. The most distinctive feature of these rugs is the Gul (flower), a repeated petite medallion-like motif that varies in shape and size depending on the tribe that created the carpet. 🧶

Apart from being woven in and around the Arak region in west central Iran, Antique Persian Farahan Sarouk rugs and carpets are known for combining different qualities and sensibilities. The classic medallion design on Sarouk Farahans and all the minor details exhibit an exciting combination of suave curve-linearity and geometric styles. Despite resembling the angular drawing of Herizes and Serapis, Farahan Sarouk rugs stand out due to their much finer scale and suitability for classical designs. The delicate design mirrors Farahan's weaving technique, which is relatively tight and refined. Their colouration tends to be rich yet soft, emphasising terracotta reds, delicate blues and greens, and pastel apricots and yellows.

The elegantly designed border of this classic Persian rug complements the colours of the floral patterns, accentuating the contrast between soft salmon and black, thus bringing balance to this beautiful Persian Isfahan rug.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge the exceptional diversity of Kurdish rugs, each showcasing the weavers' distinctive cultural heritage and artistic ingenuity behind them.
The history of Kurdish weavers in the northwestern area of Persia and the Iranian Kurdistan region is characterised by an exquisite fusion of styles. Regrettably, antique Kurdish rugs have been somewhat underappreciated in recent decades. The Kurdish people have long been residents of the eastern edge of Turkey, northern Iraq, western Persia, and small areas near Persia's eastern borders. Their traditional village carpets feature motifs that demonstrate a connection to Caucasian designs. Despite their relatively small numbers, Kurdish weavers have significantly impacted the areas north of Persia.
