At approximately 6 a.m. today, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies along with representatives from the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Task Force successfully executed a search and seizure warrant in Baltimore and arrested Keon Wilson-Hawkins, age 20, of Baltimore, for the Jan. 10, 2024, murder of Brice Wendell Boots, age 65, from Pikesville, Maryland. “This very disturbing murder has been a non-stop priority for our agency since it occurred in early January. This crime is another example of individuals from outside of this county committing violent crimes locally and somehow believing their crimes won’t be solved,” said FCSO Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. “Our detectives have gone above and beyond to pull the facts and evidence together and build the case for indictment and prosecution, and successfully and without incident arrested Wilson-Hawkins this morning.” At approximately 1:32 p.m., on Jan. 10, 2024, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies responded to the 8200 block of Crum Road, Walkersville, Maryland, for the report of a suspicious vehicle in a field. The caller reported that the vehicle had its flashers on and had been there since 7 a.m. Upon responding, deputies found Boots inside the vehicle and immediately established a crime scene at the location. Deputies identified Boots and made all appropriate next of kin notifications. Based on evidence located on the scene, the FCSO investigated Boots death as a homicide. Deputies closed Crum Road at Liberty Road to Crum Road at Stauffer Road to the public for two days as this investigation at the crime scene continued. This incident is still an ongoing investigation and if anyone has information, contact the FCSO at 301-600-2071 and reference case # 24-003713.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is making a change to the uniforms our deputies wear and we want to tell you why. Watch this video and listen as DFC Bittenmaster and DFC Hall tell you what is new and what the advantages are to this new uniform item. One particular note not mentioned in the video is the ease of access to get to a deputy if he/she is injured in a particular area of their body. You can expect to start seeing our deputies wearing this new uniform equipment in the very near future.

On Nov. 13, 2023, Maryland Governor Wes Moore declared Nov. 13-17, as Crash Responder Safety Week. Thanks to our partners at Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue and MDOT SHA CHART for joining us in getting this extremely important message out. As Frederick County is the fastest growing county in the state of Maryland, it is up to YOU to make sure you are staying safe as you travel through and in our county. Remember to move over when you can and if you can't, then slow down to a reasonable speed, remain vigilant to your surroundings, and keep those cell phones down.
