Fresnosaurus

I have a post up at our (somewhat rudimentary) Wordpress blog. It's about Fresnosaurus. Yes, there is one.

Illustration coming pretty soon now, courtesy of A Book of Creatures!

sjvnhm.wordpress.com Did you know there’s a Fresnosaurus? I haven’t yet run into someone in Fresno who knew about it, so this is my attempt to remedy that situation. Fresnosaurus drescheri is a plesiosaur k…

Click here to support The Discovery Center by Yanin Pineda

Our friends at The Discovery Center are raising $1M to transform their children's museum and grounds, adding a slew of new things to do both inside and outside. If you want to support museums in Fresno, this is one good way to do it right now. (And if you have kids and they haven't been there lately, you should take them -- the place is already changing fast!)

gofundme.com The Discovery Center is a non-profit educational history and science center offering valley children a hands-on learning experience to stimulate a passion, curiosity and wonder for the environment and physical sciences. It plays a major role in the lives of thousands of children each year in a va...

Why doesn’t Fresno have a museum?

A letter to the editor in the Bee on Thursday asks the question I've been asking: Why don't we have a natural history museum in Fresno?

Well, we do have quite a few institutions of science -- there's The Discovery Center for an outdoor, hands-on science museum, there's the Fresno Historical Society for the last couple hundred years of local history, and there's the Fresno Chaffee Zoo and soon the Aquarius Aquarium Institute for live animals. And if you go to Madera you can see some of our local paleontological finds at the Fossil Discovery Center of Madera County, or in Bakersfield check out the Sharktooth Hill fossils at the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History & Science.

But what if you want to learn about why we don't really feel the big earthquakes from Central California? Hear more about Tulare Lake and the people and animals that used to inhabit it? Or what if you want to see a Fresnosaurus? (Yes, that's a real thing, and we'll be posting about it more in future! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnosaurus)

Needless to say, we agree with Lana Langley, and we want to be the ones to build it.

fresnobee.com The Fresno County Museum of Natural History could be a great experience. Fresno has many different people with stories to tell and telling these stories would make the museum fun for people of all ages. I hope that someday this museum can be built.
