A relaxing day practicing up at Aunt Jean's house. We are trying out a lot of new tunes! We can't wait to see you all this year!
March 18th was supposed to be a wedding that we were to play(SCAM) The address was an abandoned house in South Fresno with plywood on the windows. Today we celebrated the close call and our gathering was a wedding theme. I am wearing a table cloth wedding gown. Ron's wife brought the wedding cake. ( And then...we ate and played music) It was a fun day.
Uncle Ron and Auntie Barb making our music sound exactly like Uncle Ephus likes it!
Miss Linda might get permission to add More cow bell!
Ed is showing us something but we can't see that far! Aunt Jean is just happy we are all playing the same chords.
Uncle Steve is figuring it out...
Just another fun practice. Ron found his missing measure, Barb daydreaming about her new puppy, Ed talking about inverted chords, Doug making a heart because he can't do Dr. Spock fingers, Jean pulling us all together, Steve ate the olives!
Happy December everyone! We had a great season playing some great gigs for you all! Here we are planning our 2023 Repertoire! Some exciting new-old tunes are surfacing! Stand by for more fun. Love "Uncle Ephus: Not strictly just an old time string band!"
Growing up on a farm outside Bowling Green, Kentucky, Sam Bush first became acquainted with John Hartford when he heard him playing three-finger “Scruggs style” banjo rolls on The Wilburn Brothers Show on a Saturday afternoon in 1967.
Not long after, on a trip to Nashville 55 miles away, Bush found the Hartford album Earthwords & Music (1967) at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop, and saw him in concert when he came to Sam’s hometown: “I was in the high school marching band my senior year. We did our rainy football halftime performance and I hightailed it to E.A. Di**le Arena in my muddy band uniform in time for his show.”
Within a few years, Bush met Hartford at Bill Monroe’s Bean Blossom Festival in Indiana, and got to know him as both a musician and a person through jamming and recording together, and even by Hartford’s side as he piloted a steamboat on the Mississippi River. That friendship, as well as the music, is what Bush is honoring with his latest album, Radio John: Songs of John Hartford, out this Friday.

Bluegrass In the Park cancelled this eve (June 10) because of the heat. We're sorry to miss the Sycamore band.
Uncle Ephus will be there next week (June 17) hopefully under comfortable temperatures.
We had a fun gig for SIRS today at Pardinis. "Sons in Retirement Service". Lots of good music and fun.

Home | My Site 2 Energetic, foot stomping old-time music, but not strictly old-time. Our music is based on old country, folk or pop songs often performed with a bluegrass flavor. A little folk, country, rock or even Irish sound is not uncommon.
Thumbs up! Uncle Ephus is looking forward to the rain and good old "any thing goes" music in 2022!
Uncle Ephus back in the very first year! Times have been grand, times have been hard. The times they are a changing....
Oh no! We see Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer being pulled over by the highway patrol helicopter. Sending him some good mojo! Ho Ho Ho!
We think we saw Uncle Ephus over by those trees poaching a chicken!
The entire Uncle Ephus band wishes you a Merry Christmas 2021!
Merry Christmas, love Uncle Ephus! (And Frosty our guest singer-fiddler sitting in for Uncle Steve and Cousin Jean.)
