Now a 70% chance of a tropical storm or hurricane developing in the western Gulf of Mexico over the next 7 days. It appears like we will have in the coming days and models show it moving north towards the Texas/Louisiana Coast on Wed/Thurs. Houston could be dealing with another problem.

Fun night last night gathering together with other storm chasers and weather nerds in DFW for a private showing of the new Twisters movie.

Always fun seeing the Dominator and Reed Timmer and it creates quite the circus.🤣

Twisters was really, really good! I highly recommend you go see it in theaters.

Tornado warned supercell south of Midland, TX earlier this year. This storm was sucking up dust from the fields and shortly later produced a fairly long-lasting tornado over mostly open oil country.

Spent most of the afternoon today on Matagorda Beach along the Texas Gulf Coast awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Beryl. The Gulf is very agitated now and the outer core rain bands have arrived now. Going to get a couple hours of sleep and then be back out there for landfall and the core of Beryl.

Hurricane Beryl is now the first Category 4 Hurricane during the month of June in recorded history! What a beast of a storm packing sustained winds of 130mph.

Beryl will strike the Leeward Islands over the next 30 hours and then enter the Caribbean. U.S. impacts along the western Gulf Coast about a week from now can’t be ruled out.

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season has formed! Hurricane Beryl is likely to rapidly intensify and then models point to a second hurricane forming shortly after it.

Chase trip day 5

6-19-2024 Willard, NM

Waking up in the OK panhandle and expected to chase in northeastern NM but the boundary had surged further south. Decided to go after it and drop to a stationary storm in east central NM. While the storm died as we arrived, its wrath was still being felt. As we headed northwest on Highway 42 towards Willard, NM, we encounter backed up traffic and the road completely impassible in the valley from flash flooding, mud, and hail drifts over 2 feet deep. Cars were trapped and it was a scene like nothing I’ve ever seen before!
