Indigenous Peoples' Day: Honoring the Land and Our Animal Companions
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day, a day to celebrate and honor the original inhabitants of this land. Indigenous peoples have a deep connection to the earth and all living things, including animals.
As a pet sitting business, we are committed to honoring this connection. We believe that all animals deserve to be treated with respect and compassion, and we strive to provide our clients' pets with the best possible care.
Here are a few ways we are working to honor Indigenous Peoples' Day and our animal companions:
We are learning about traditional Indigenous pet keeping practices.
We are sourcing sustainable and ethical pet supplies from Indigenous-owned businesses.
We are donating a portion of our proceeds to organizations that support Indigenous communities and animal welfare.
We encourage our clients to join us in honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day and our animal companions. Here are a few things you can do:
Learn about the Indigenous peoples of your region and their traditional pet keeping practices.
Support Indigenous-owned pet businesses.
Donate to organizations that support Indigenous communities and animal welfare.
Together, we can create a more just and compassionate world for all living things.
Pet sitting: More than just feeding and walking your pet
Pet sitting is a great way to ensure that your furry friend is well-cared for while you're away. But did you know that pet sitting can be more than just feeding and walking your pet?
A good pet sitter will also provide your pet with companionship, exercise, and enrichment. They will also be there to monitor your pet's health and well-being.
Here are a few of the benefits of hiring a pet sitter:
Your pet will be cared for in their own home, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
Your pet will have a consistent routine, which is important for their physical and mental health.
Your pet will get the exercise and mental stimulation they need.
You can have peace of mind knowing that your pet is in good hands.
Pet Friendly Pet Treats:
Chicken and Sweet Potato Dog Biscuits
Ingredients:
1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
1 cup mashed sweet potato
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 egg
1/4 cup water
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, combine the chicken, sweet potato, flour, egg, and water. Mix until well combined.
Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
Let the biscuits cool completely before giving them to your dog.
Preparing Your Pet for Your Absence
Here are a few tips on how to prepare your pet for your absence:
Let your pet sitter know your pet's feeding schedule, exercise routine, and any medications they take.
Leave detailed instructions on how to care for your pet. This should include information on their diet, potty breaks, and any special needs they have.
Make sure your pet sitter has a copy of your pet's medical records and knows the contact information for your veterinarian.
Leave your pet's favorite toys and treats with the pet sitter. This will help them to feel more comfortable and at home while you are away.
Pet Friendly Recipes:
Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats

1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup peanut butter (make sure it is natural and does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)

In a large bowl, combine the flour, peanut butter, mashed banana, and water. Mix until well combined.

You should never give your dog these foods.
You do whatever it takes!
While you are enjoying your please don't forget to remember those who have given their lives.
Paxton is a kitty I currently take care of. He is a lover boy. I started pet sitting because I loved animals so much, I was good at it, and because it helps ease the symptoms of my mental health conditions.
Did you know?
Dogs heat up more quickly than humans
Dogs’ normal body temperature is slightly higher than that of humans (it hovers at around 101.5° F), which means that hotter temperatures can affect them more.
We love our pets, but they are only part of our lives for a little while. They are family, so they should be treated like family.
