Jody Davis
Official page.Retired pro athlete, played Major League Baseball for 10 years & coached for many more.
Congratulations to my former teammate and lifelong friend Ryno on his well-deserved statue dedication today, the 40th anniversary of The Sandberg Game.
It was a privilege to play with you on the field and now to watch how you have come out on top against cancer.
In case you missed it - or just want to see it again…!
A video message from Jody, inviting you to an autograph/photograph appearance.

Sing along with Jody as he leads the 7th inning stretch tomorrow, Saturday May 4th, at Wrigley Field. He will throw out the first pitch, too!
Great news! Brian Dayett is getting better. He was able to be taken off of the ventilator and is breathing on his own, fighting the good fight and winning against pneumonia. Thank you for pulling for him.
Please say some prayers and send well wishes for our baseball brother Brian Dayett. He was rushed to the hospital, admitted to ICU and is on life support at the moment - trying his best to pull thru.
Please say a prayer for my teammate and friend.
40 years of brotherhood.
Last appearance of the 2024 Convention. Jody is signing autographs until 11am on Stage E of Level 1 (one floor below the lobby). This is open to all conventioneers.
4pm in the main ballroom. Reminisce about one of the most beloved seasons in Cubs history.
(Ryno didn’t arrive due to the unfortunate weather tho.)
Jody is signing autographs in the Mayfair Room from 12:30-1:00. It is supposed to be season ticket holders but I think if the line dies down they may let others in at the end.
I (Patty) am sitting toward the front of the tables with a portable stool and taking a few photos if anyone comes in and wants to say hi!
Today is the start of the Cubs Convention. Jody will be there from start to finish! Are you coming?
Have yourself a Merry little Christmas!
How to trim a Christmas tree…
Happy birthday, Pops!
Lee Smith and I, in particular, really looked up to Fergie in our early time with the Cubs - with great reason. He turns 81 today.
43 years ago today Jody Davis became a Cub, at age 24!
He was on the Cardinals AAA roster in the summer 1980. They failed to protect him as a prospect by keeping him on their 40-man roster. This opened an opportunity for the Cubs to draft him away, in exchange for $25,000 and a guaranteed spot on the big league club during the 1981 season. And the rest is history.
Did you know that catchers did not originally wear any face protection, just a rubber mouth guard? They also stayed several feet behind the plate and stood straight up.
The first evolution toward protective facial gear came in 1878 when a fellow named Fred Thayer invented the first catcher’s mask. He was captain and third baseman for the Harvard University “base ball” team, the Harvard Nine. He was concerned about the team’s new catcher when their pitchers began throwing a new pitch called a curve ball.
Thayer designed the mask, after observing members of the school’s fencing team, and his patent was issued just one month later!
Happy Birthday to a great teammate and friend, Hall of Famer Lee Smith.
Here is a fun look back at a personal appearance at the iconic Marshall Field’s store on State Street in 1987.
[Many thanks to Jeff T!]
Jody (with Steve Trout) at his appearance at Bricks and Ivy Sports in Hoopeston, IL yesterday afternoon.

I am thankful to still be remembered and supported all these decades later. -JRD7
