I just got this email today!!!

"Good Morning Judi,
We wanted you to be the first to know that your entry "After the Storm" won the 2025 Old Florida Celebration of the Arts Design Contest - CONGRATULATIONS. As you know (as the first ever to have won the design contest twice), the artwork is used on posters, postcards, advertisements and other promotional materials. "

I almost didn't enter the contest this year since I knew that I would be moving. I thought about it every day and put it off until the last minute, thinking "It's open to everyone, no matter where they live. Might as well go ahead and enter it!" The theme for this year's poster was "Vintage Cedar Key."
The Festival is scheduled for April 5 & 6, 2025 in beautiful Cedar Key!

This painting has been adopted by a very good friend.
I will let her tag herself is she wants to be known.
I will deliver it to her this evening at Ballyhoos.
(Music tonight by Nicole and Neil! from 6:00 til 8:00)

The name of the painting is "El Indio Palm."
I wrote a poem-story to go with this painting.
I will probably write another one when I get a moment.
This painting and the story of it
fits so appropriately for this time in my Life.
The El Indio Palm is gone,
El Indio, the restaurant remains,
an Island of beauty in a sea of destruction.
I am leaving Gainesville
but my sadness is not for me,
but for the loss of the beauty of Nature,
due to Man's lust for money and power and control.
My physical body may be leaving Gainesville,
But my spirit will always reside
in Tree City.

"El Indio Palm"
~Judi Cain
I’ll never forget that day
She first spoke to me
While we sat in the shade
Of an old oak tree
At a picnic table,
My young daughters and me
At our favorite place
El Indio,
Such a long time ago in Tree City . . .
Munching on cheese dip
And crunchy tortilla chips, queso,
Guacamole and veggie tacos,
Serenaded by cicadas and song birds,
While we talked about our full and pleasant day -
At El Indio.
From our country home,
My young daughters and me,
Driving into town -
So many opportunities
For learning and growing in Tree City.
Piano lessons,
A leisurely visit to the library,
Browsing and borrowing so many books
For each of us,
A side trip to Mother Earth for groceries,
Classes at the Dancenter
in beginning ballet
For all three of us,
And now our favorite treat
At El Indio.
I saw her standing there so tall
Her elegant trunk so near the wall -
A concrete building
Across the empty lot
On the north side
of El Indio.
Her roots surrounded by asphalt
Alone she stood
Proudly reaching for the bright blue sky
Waving her fronds
At fluffy white clouds
High in the sky
Above El Indio.
I began to imagine her
planted
Near the beach
With white sand and sea grass at her feet
Still waving at clouds
And now
sea birds
Flying above her.
“How did you get here?
El Indio Palm?
Did a bird drop your seed?
Or were you planted by Intention?
And how elegantly you survive . . .
In this empty lot
On the north side of
El Indio.
Week after week,
Year after year,
I watched her grow
Even as my daughters also grew,
Until one day I found myself
Driving alone
My daughters now grown
And moved away from
Gainesville,
The home I chose
Above all others
Tree City.
On the glorious tree-lined boulevard
Spring Arts Festival, 1977
Azaleas, wisteria blooming everywhere
The fragrance of jasmine filled the air,
Dogwood dropping blossoms at my feet.
This is my place
I will live the rest of my days in Tree City!
My daughters are coming
For a visit soon
And on this day
I return to El Indio
To refresh my memories
To visit my friend,
The palm tree
At El Indio
But . . .
Detours detained me
Streets were closed
Construction and Destruction
In every direction
Tall ugly buildings
Rising rapidly
Even as I drove around blocks
Blocked by cranes and hard hatted workers.
Cars lined at the entry . . .
Horns honking
Construction Noises
Assaulted my ears . . .
Finally
I sat alone
At the same picnic table
Under the Oak Tree,
Still standing, still shading,
Where we sat so many times . . .
At El Indio
I looked for my friend
The El Indio Palm,
Now stood leaning,
Not so tall,
Her fronds drooping
And yellow against the wall,
Her trunk blocked
By a dumpster, overflowing.
Construction equipment,
A storage shed,
And piles of trash,
On every side of her.
In the lot on the north side
Of El Indio.
Two weeks later
She was gone.
Without a trace,
Another building will rise in her place,
While concrete and steel
Will fill the air space
Above Tree City.
Goodby El Indio Palm.
Goodby Tree City.

Judi Cain - Art for Sale 07/08/2024

At my Reception/Farewell Party at Hotel Indigo this past Friday evening some of my friends asked me about prints of my paintings. There were so many people there and so much wonderful activity that I don't remember who asked, and which ones they asked about.
I started uploading my art to this website 10 years ago!
But I haven't added any recent works for quite a while.
Many of my Friends and Patrons have purchased prints of my art on various surfaces through this site.
(I also have made prints up to 8" x 10" using my home printer, but I won't be able to do that now - I have a lot of packing to do to get ready for my move.)
I invite you to browse through this site to see what they offer. I will try to find time to add the ones that were on display at Hotel Indigo.
Please let me know if the one you're looking for is not on this site and I will add it right away!

RECEPTION/FAREWELL PARTY ON FRIDAY, JULY 5, FROM 5:00 TIL 7:00 PM.
"Looking forward,
It might be too late
To start again,
To look forward,
To dream
To have longings,
To be loved
The way I wanted to be loved.
I know it exists.
I’ve witnessed it.
Couples growing old together
Bickering sweetly
Over meaningless memories
That have meaning yet for them.
Cohabited habits,
Faults perceived as annoying
Yet accepted as endearing
A story of survival,
Riding out the storms of Life,
Sheltered by the embrace of acceptance
In the fortress of Love.
Meanwhile
I’m looking back
To days of wild adventures.
Together we rocked boats
And scaled mountains
Of misfortune,
Standing together at the peak,
Scattering seeds of hope
Amid storms of sinking ships
Until . . .
That time when pirates
Divided and conquered,
Sinking the ships we built together
Along with all the lifeboats in tow
Now we find ourselves
Surviving on separated islands.
At least that’s what I saw
And what I see
From my perspective
Looking back."
