I picked this up today from Attic Antiques. My dad started at Gale Products in 1956
Here is a great pair of pictures given to me by a great niece of the N. John Johnson mentioned, of one of the George Brown Corn Planter Works buildings. It is when the Galesburg Power and Light company (then Illinois Power, then Ameren) must have purchased the building and remodeled the front as it is today or somewhat(I wish it included the finished front). At some point the rear was shortened to its current state.
You can see the Sinclair Dairy building in the background, currently the Headstart Preschool? I did not know that the power company was in that building so long. Did they leave when the Unemployment office moved in, I don't remember the timeline.
Chocolate Fest News!
The event has been postponed from Feb. to March due to the moving of the museum area. The idea is to show off the opening of our new museum in the Galesburg Community Art Center (formerly the Galesburg Antique Mall). So it will be a smaller event on the 3rd floor ballroom. The museum won't be 100% done but will be moved and ready for a small showing. So far the CF date is 24 March.

A very nice ceremony today at Coney Island commemorating 100 years in business. Quite a feat anywhere for a restaurant.
Here's a Throwback Thursday for everyone. This was not the first head shop in town, who was?
And I spent a lot of hours in this pool hall on S Seminary. It went by another name when it first opened.
A great day for history fans at Lake Storey. Another great showing for Heritage Days.
Another great layout of Mayo General Hospital at the Hawthorne Center. Drawn in 1945 it shows the POW camp about where the water tower is I would guess.
The Purple Hanger next to the old armory is getting a nice face-lift. The original store front is still there, nice sandstone with the great graphics of groceries and fluted corner columns. It will look fabulous when finished!

Here is a group of drawings of utilities (removed for privacy) for downtown Galesburg in 1971. Pre Sandburg Mall days, showing what a vibrant downtown we had. This is how I remember it!
Saw this today in Monmouth on the front of the Patton Block building/restaurant. I wonder how many thousands of these must have been made by Frost Manufacturing?
Parade of Progress!
I have always loved this picture. I was told the original picture was taken in the Galesburg yards. I do not know if that is true or not.
Saw this jug today at a friend's house, had never seen one before. I have see many of their other beverage bottles. Post a pic o FCC yours in the comments!
We are sorry to hear this news. It means we will not have our Galesburg Historical Society Tram Tour this year. It is a major source of income for the Historical Society.
43rd Annual Galesburg Railroad Days has been canceled It was announced Monday, May 4th that Railroad Days 2020 has officially been canceled. The announcement was made by Galesburg’s weekly newspaper The Burg via Facebook. Originally planned for June 25th through June 28th, this year would
Sullins Mfg in Galesburg made Irish Checkers and Yotchie. I remember we always played Yotchie as kids on score pads my dad had made at work. I just thought it was a wierd way to spell it having seen Yatzee in the stores.
Would love to hear more about Sullins Mfg!
Einar and Dorthy Hansen, I grew up across the street from them. He would get this out a couple times a year for parades. Occasionally if we were lucky he would give us a ride around the neighborhood. He worked at Gale Products and I remember him telling me that he made castings of parts of the engine at the foundry there.
Donated pictures of old Midwest Golf Association members from a family member.
Was it Midwest Manufacturing Co? Before Admiral and Maytag?
Some nice pictures of Lombard 1937. This was my father's 9th grade class.
A great picture of Old Main.
Here are some pictures of the Galesburg 1937 Centennial Parade

Saw this gem at a friend's house tonight. We thought it was made 1980+/-. The bag inflates with air when you turn it on.
Here is another nice pic of Lombard. They were building the girls gym in this pic and I would bet the rubble just east of the main building is what would be left of Lombard College old main. And now the last remnant is gone too.
I friend brought this over to look at. It is amazing how many homes that were lost to Knox College over the years. Can someone tell me what the group of barracks or whatever are below the ball field.
Jessica Lindsey just shared this photo of her and her sister, circa 1988 and gave permission to share here.
This is the Founders Fountain dedicated right about that time, must have been pretty new in this pic.
We all know what happened to it, dedicated to be cared for into perpetuity which means 35 years+/- in this area.
Found these today going through my mothers things. February 1950, the Clary was a relative.
A great pile of Burlington Route items donated to the museum by Dave and Lisa McCommons today. Thank you very much for thinking of us for these items.
I just received this from a friend in Florida. His father worked on the McDonald's on Henderson St. Only thing around is the high school.
Some dear friends came over tonight with a box of items for the museum. These were among them. From Hope Cemetery 1879 and 1875. First is from Alex Lipskiy and the other is J W Carlson. She thought her mom (Wenzel) had some Lipskiy's in her family.

Had a great time at the Galesburg Christmas Parade! Thank you to Jon and Debbie Hagan for all their work on the float and to Jon for driving the tractor!
