Just letting y’all know I will be at Hickory Convention Center in Hickory, NC. Always a great location for a card show.
Was a great show, my shirt worn was a reflection of the weather
Was doing the North Carolina Fairgrounds show on Father’s Day weekend, both days were terrific.
Come see me this coming Saturday at the Wilmington Convention center.
Haven’t posted in awhile, was at First National Bank field last Saturday, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Nice location, took a few mediocre pictures of my showcases. Lighting not great, so took them each twice.
After a busy day at Strongsville, needed to rearrange and restock for Saturday. Looking forward to seeing some new faces today and my regular OBC guys again today and to those members just arriving today. Plenty of bargain tub fodder left. The original baseball only tub didn’t get as hard hit as expected yesterday, so Enjoy! Look forward to seeing y’all!
Just thought I would put out a reminder that I will be set up again at the Strongsville Sports Collectors Convention in their new location at the Brunswick Arena in Strongsville, Ohio, just a few miles south of Cleveland, across the parking lot from the hotel where it has been located since 1978. The longest running show for sports cards and memorabilia. Show runs from this Friday through Sunday. You can get further details at strongsvillesports.com.
Look forward to seeing you there! The bargain tubs have been reloaded in advance of the show.
Thank you!
Kurt
Strongsville Sports Collectors Convention The premier event for rare sports cards and memorabilia and the longest running vintage sports convention in America.
Tried a new show in Burlington, NC. Was a sellout, the young men of POW Productions are go-getters and have been putting on some great shows!
Just picked up a mother lode of 1954-55 Topps World of Wheels. If anybody collects this set, let me know.
Been awhile since I posted. Great show in Raleigh this weekend. Took some case shots at the end.
Good night for my buddy Bill Boerst, just killed his ‘67 set with a Seaver RC. Thanks, Bill!
Unfortunately we lost another good one. Herb Watson passed away. He will be missed and our prayers and thoughts go out to his wife Cathy and children.
Picked up a nice little find this past weekend. A complete run on the 1961T AS. All pretty clean except for Danny Murtaugh (no tears shed) and my buddy Bill took him off my hands. Mickey is a decent card but has a flaw I’ve never seen, It appears he picked up ink smudges from the black background in photo.
Back in Salisbury doing a show today. Good turnout. Will be back here on November 18th.
Just finishing up with my 60th birthday weekend at an icon of North Carolina steakhouses: The Beefmastor Inn in Wilson, NC. Only one thing on the Menu - Ribeye Steak, they cut it at your table.. I took down the whole 18 oz. Only 10 tables in the place, always full.
Bittersweet weekend, it’s Wes Starkey’s last official card show in Raleigh he is promoting. Had the pleasure to talk to Wes Spece and meet his lovely wife Katie who are taking over Inside Pitch Promotions commencing January 2024. Wes (original) is finishing the rest of his schedule for the year (Hickory, Salisbury, Winston-Salem) and will still be around as a vendor.
Hey going to be set up at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Glen Allen tomorrow. Hope to see you there.
Trying a new venue at the Virginia Beach Fieldhouse today. Great venue, reminds me of TwinsFest at the old Metrodome as we are on artificial turf.
Another fantastic Hickory, NC show at the convention center. Some bittersweet news, were informed by our friend and fabulous promoter Wes Starkey of Inside Pitch Promotions will be turning over the reins of the company to a new promoter after 12 years. Wes said this was his toughest year as he had 11 dealers pass away, including the incomparable Chandy Greenholt. He was the best, personal anecdote - The first show I ever did with him I was still in Minnesota. Before the show he called me and asked if there was anything he could do for me. And I laughed and said “Wes, I have been waiting for this call for 20 years, as no promoter ever has”. That being said, I give current kudos to Michael Christopher who has really done a great job, IMO. And gotta give a shout out to Jerry Nelson as my former business partner, childhood friend and my National Boothmate (not currently doing the National) who always strived hard to promote a great show. I will be at the National this year on Friday only to buy. Next show Raleigh in a couple weeks. Also managed to pick up a partial set of 1954 Red Hearts. Don’t usually get them in this quantity, usually a card at a time.
Good eats at the card show today provided by Nick Spindler, Realtor - Grow Local Realty and Shady's!
Just recovering after being in Cleveland area for the Strongsville show Thursday-Sunday. That drive all the way home is never fun and it rained through every state I was in, but it makes it easier if the show was strong and I felt this was. I want to thank everyone who patronized me this weekend. Can’t thank the boys from OBC enough for coming out this weekend, although the number of members may have been bigger in the past. I don’t recall any previous Strongsville show where the members kept me this busy. I swear they must have cloned Aaron Shirley, seemed like he appeared from any angle. Good to see the Dynamic Dayton Duo, Barnes & Shepard. And also Taylor, Gersh, Talbot, Rich, Morganti and newer members I met for the first time in person, Jensen and Grever. If I have forgotten any this is my 60th year and I apologize.I was also happy to see that my friend Herb Watson was back doing Strongsville after a many year hiatus. I wouldn’t be doing the show except for Herb and Steve Slockett encouraging me to try to get in and be patient. I was and the rest is history. I started last week reeling from the loss of Chandy. And I finished the week at the show on Sunday by honoring him to making my $1 tub half price as he always did a similar discount every Sunday. See y‘all next year.
