We are RunZen

Together we crossed that finish. She could have ran this half so much faster, but she slowed down and even made sure to wait until I caught up to run it in hard at the end to get me across that line. That is a good friend.

This is Katie who I can't express enough in words how much I love and appreciate her. She's who gets my crazy and pushes me to always be better. We don't have to run far or fast, but we always show up. Who in your life can you count on to show up and push you towards your goals?

The other half of RunZen is home. Yay. Gearing up for July goals. New month and more than half-way through the year. What are some of your goals this month? Tomorrow we will kick it off with an easy 3 mile run which may involve walking because the other half of the avocado 🥑 took a 2 week reprieve and was cross training on a stationary bike. We will see how this goes. Ha!

Where are all you parents? Did you survive the first official week of summer break? Put those oxygen masks on. Kids are home and routines may be out of control, but that does not mean stop taking care of you.

Tomorrow a longer run early before the kids wake up. When you are struggling with time look for the gaps in your schedule. Never underestimate a quick 20 min work out. If you have younger kids then include them, but just keep moving.

Happy Friday

Global Running Day. Running in the morning is definitely our more tried and true window, but tonight was a surprisingly enjoyable run.

Quality time + run = zen 🌸

Did you get in on Global Running Day action? How did you find your zen today?

Let us never forget the sacrifices made by our service men and women. Freedom isn’t free - they paid the ultimate price. ♥️🤍💙

We made it to Friday. We made it through another school year. Does anyone else go through a period of sadness? Our kids are growing older. It is a lot to process and every year it feels heavier. This year was one of the most challenging as teacher and parent. We made it though.

As we get ready for a longer weekend to fully settle use this as a gentle reminder to be okay to sit in any feelings as we reflect upon this last school year and to find comfort in the things that bring you some zen.

It is not possible to pour from an empty cup.

What does your weekend plans look like? Tell us.
Thank you all who have liked our new page.

Anyone else feeling this? Summer blues are hitting hard for this momma. As both teacher and parent, the end of year busy season is pure chaos. It can be easy to take a tailspin into a full cycle of bad habits. Those things will only put a temporary bandaid over the root of the problem. What can you do to redirect your focus by eliminating this busy season? Sometimes stillness is the answer. Today, do something that brings calm.

This morning was perfect. Cooler weather, sunrise, a little wildlife (pic 2)...and neither of us were dying of exhaustion.

But not every day is like this. We’ve had plenty of bad runs, or bad days that became a bad run, too. Life is like that, and fitness can be, too.

So if today is a bad day, give yourself a little grace. And if your run is lovely and brings you right to that zen feeling...take a deep breath and enjoy it! 💛

How are you “running” today?

Who's ready for a new week? As you enter Monday and you start to set your intention or goal for the week more importantly think about WHO in your life will help you get to your goal. This journey wasn't meant to be shared alone.

Who can hold you accountable? This right here is one of the most important pieces in achieving any goal and is often missed because most people may be afraid to share their goals whether personal or fitness-related. Share them. Find someone who can support and celebrate with you! Tonight I served at church with our YTH 6-12th grade and the message was about the importance of community and finding your pack.

came from two friends who connected over health and fitness and we hold each other accountable. I shared my scary goal of wanting to run a half marathon with Katie who has been a runner for 30 years. I am not nearly as fast and I walk and instead of worrying that she may not want to run with me because I will slow her down she ran to my pace and walks when I need to. I accomplished two half marathons because she ran beside me! This is the type of connections and friendships that develop when you share your goals.

Let this page be a source of accountability and encouragement.

I hope you all have a great start to your week. I would love to hear your goals or who in your life can hold you accountable. You're never alone.

The best plan for weekday success is the one that you write down!

1. Plan your “run.” What days are you planning to work out this week? Do you have a rest day built in? Keep an eye on which days are busiest for your household and time your movement accordingly. Hint: there’s not much that gets in the way of an early morning sweat - and watching the sunrise is beautiful ☺️

2. Prep/plan your meals. For some, this could be down to every last detail. Others may do well to simply make ahead something you can just reheat on a busy night. Writing it down helps keep your plan in place, and your nutrition goals in mind!

3. Catch up on sleep! Sleep in, take a nap, or go to bed early. Rest is one of the most important pieces of your health!

4. Actually put the laundry away...need we say more? And remember that if you have kids that are old enough to figure out how to use a phone or remote...they’re old enough to help out their clothes away 😉

5. Build in your zen! What time can you carve out for your peace this weekend? What activity (or non-activity!) calms your mind, body and spirit? Whatever it is...apply that balm.

6. Spend time with your family - or with friends who are family. Staying connected to those you love is worth any effort you make to do so.

7. Breathe. Don’t tackle everything at once. Pick one or two steps and build them in until they are habits.

What are your weekend habits for weekday sanity? Share with us!

What is RunZen?

Two friends connected during a pandemic and found purpose through movement + healthy habits.

A little about us:

We both balance full-time jobs and 7 kids between us. We are both involved in our church. We have both always been into health and wellness. Between us, we have nearly 40 years of running or fitness program experience, as well as substantial weight loss from focusing on nutrition and overall balance.

RunZen is not solely focused on the ability to run or do yoga. Our mission is to remind everyone,
"Don’t give up, do what YOU can! Everything counts, so just DO something!"

We Run on chaos - balancing kids, teaching, work, etc., isn't for the faint of heart 😉 , And yet, we always find Zen as we re-center through yoga. We are also strongly rooted in our faith, as without that we would not be able to do all that we do.

Together, we have run over hundreds of miles and practiced hours and hours of yoga. This page will have helpful tips on Nutrition + Fitness + Running + Yoga + the things we enjoy.

Our mission is to remind everyone to find RunZen in their life through intentional movement + nutrition + self-care.

Welcome to our page. We're glad you're here.
