"Intimate Spaces," an exhibition of paintings of n**es by Tom Wesselmann, is now on view at Gagosian, Beverly Hills!

Wesselmann’s n**es became icons of the 1960s sexual revolution. Wishing to avoid portraiture, the artist frequently deemphasized facial features, foregrounding both abstraction and overt eroticism. “The figures dealt primarily with their presence,” he wrote (as his pseudonym, Slim Stealingworth). “Personality would interfere with the bluntness of the fact of the n**e. Nancy Margolis Gallery will present its first online exhibition of works by Jarid del Deo, “5/8ths Moon,” from May 16 – June 23.

The oil paintings by Maine artist Jarid del Deo present familiar moments in ways that spark surprise and curiosity. The nine works featured in “5/8ths Moon” make use of the artist’s own New England landscape to explore color relativity, form, and perspective.

"Real life is not a comic book, the villains don’t always wind up in Arkham Asylum and justice doesn’t always prevail in the end. In this painting the Joker proudly displays his handiwork as a polar bear precariously perches on an infinitesimal iceberg. The Titanic ocean liner ironically sinks in the distance while an ominously titanic Saturn looms overhead. In this allegory of climate change and mass extinction, the Titanic symbolizes the hubris of technological overreach while Saturn symbolizes melancholy and invokes a god who devours his own children. Batman can do nothing but display impotent anger while Superman turns his back on events in sullen disregard."
