Hello all!
I would like to recognize an outstanding local organization who partners with the community to serve even more people!
I work at Highline Post Acute and we have many patients who would love to walk more, but because of staff and patient safety and resources, we can't accommodate everyone. But now we can, thanks to Holly at Community Aquatics n' Occupational Engagement - CANOE. A family wanted to donate the walker to a facility where it would be used frequently. And we are so thankful!!

Holly Ross, owner of CANOE, is an occupational therapist that absolutely loves to connect clients, families, and businesses to resources in the environment. One thing she is passionate about is using her full scope of practice to find hidden resources, community events, and passing on donations. "Families really aren't told about resources and when caregiving full time for someone with a disability, there's no time to search the internet for hours looking for something you need. Also, if a family can't use something then I help find reputable businesses that can. It's really about empowering occupational performance as a whole for the community, and who better to fulfill that role than an OT." CANOE provides outpatient OT services, aquatic therapy, home modification evaluations, and free community events with a specific focus on the ages 2mo-26years of age. All disabilities welcome! www.canoecommunity.org

I am officially worn out :) had a great day at the Neurodiversity fair! Lots of kids kept me pretty busy. We had a basket where kids could draw a piece of paper with an exercise and any 90% choose the inertia bands. We also did every exercise as well. Met so many wonderful kids, parents, and vendors/ providers. We had inertia bands, slam ball, hurdles, agility ladder and lots of fun! Thank you Guiding Bright Minds and Accelerated Schools for the wonderful event! We look forward to the next one!

[Strategies of planned physical activity in autism: systematic review] - PubMed 04/26/2023

Hey all! One thing that I enjoy doing is researching populations that I work with and what I can do differently with each person. I spent some time doing some research. Physical activity and exercise games has been proven to reduce behavioral tendencies for people with ASD, improve joint attention, and improve motor skills. Here are some research articles I found this evening. Each week I would like to share some facts as it relates to people with disabilities. What would you be interested in learning Comment below :) Everett Middle School will be having an event next month and Blastpt will be there with some workout equipment!

Hello! I've started a new challenge! The challenge is having a person without a disability perform an every day activity that someone with a disability has to do. For example, being in the car, taking apart a wheel chair and then putting the chair in the car. (Mind you it needs to be done the same way). Use on Facebook or instagram and share the video. This is all about bringing awareness, understanding, and inclusiveness. Have fun!

Edit** I started a personal training non profit called BlastPT. To help the mission of what I'm trying to do, i had this idea. It's mission is to help people with disabilities get stronger, more mobile, more independent, and feel supported by the community. I'm sorry I forgot to include that. More info is available at blastpt.org.
