The Handmade Hermit
Hi! I'm Stephanie - Wife, Mom, Maker. This is a place where squishy blocks of vivid colors become tiny pieces of wearable art.
Check out the shop, maybe my favorite things are your new favorites too!
I can't even begin to encapsulate this year in words in a post. So instead here's a few of my favorite things I'm looking at while on vacation. πβ₯οΈ
I literally feel like Santa Claus this year. Can't believe I get to make such pretty things and send them to people I love. Hope your holidays have a little bit of lovely delight in them. If not, let's make some together this new year, ok?!
The perfect little stud to go with everything. π€© Now available on the shop.
Meet the Maidenhair Dangles. Aren't the lovely? Now available in shop.

The Super Dome Hug and the Mini Dome Hug. My two new favorite earrings. Wear them on game day (Go Saints!) or on glam day. These black and gold stunners are a gentle nod to the football stadium in NOLA. As an outsider who didn't grow up anywhere near football fandom, I thought the craze was just sports. But learning more and hearing folks talk, I've heard stories about how this building has literally been a shelter in the storm, a safehouse for the displaced, a place where people get their feet back underneath. These are the monuments that solidify community, they make the celebrations and game days sweeter than honey.
This collection came to life as the calendar turned from summer to fall and Hurricane Ida ripped through Louisiana with a fierceness we've not seen since Katrina. I married a man from the swamp and we always have Louisiana on our mind.
I'll be donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale of any earring in this collection AND any sale during the month of November to the bayoufund.org a GoFundMe set up by social workers to put cash into the hands of folks who need it asap in the hardest hit parish. If you don't need any jewelry, please pop over to the fundraiser. Any donation is not too small, it all adds up when we all do it.

Held Hoops from the new Hurricane collection. The contrast on these is what I love most. The big chunky black and gold hoops held by a fine gold almost invisible (in comparison) wire hoop. Because in seasons of hardship it's always the seemingly tiny things that hold it all together. Kindness from strangers, sweet memories, a hug, or a surprise; these tiny bits of joy make the whole thing incredibly beautiful and day by day more bearable.
What holds you?

Coming soooooon. These hand twisted copper rings have me swooning. πππππ
Remember when we were so excited about the 20's? All the glitz and glam? Parties and friends? I think in part that's what I love about making little beautiful things now. Because instead of walking into a new decade with excitement and joy, we've all been through something incredibly truamatic. Early on in the pandemic I hired a therapist and it was the most helpful thing I've ever done for myself. I've seen her weekly for over a year and a half now. She's walked with me through frozen truama brain as I faced the early days of pandemic and my mind snapped back into the superhighway of unhelpful thinking that I had created as a child. She helped me identify an ADHD diagnosis and how my brain is different and beautiful. She helped me work through PTSD as I realized I was pregnant, and the crazy hormones stepped up and my OCD tendencies paired with anxiety meant I couldn't unspin my own webs. She helped me make really hard decisions that helped me feed my newborn AND be a present wife and mother. And she kept asking every week if I've had enough sleep, water, food and time to myself. As I emerged from the fog, I've found that making things helps me in ways I still don't understand. It grounds me and allows me to process as I do repetitive tasks. It gives me space to be silent and unmoving. And the end result is just so fun. And now with a fun pair of earrings and a mask minder, instead of remembering my sensory issues as I walk into a building and put on a mask, I feel a bit of beauty and individuality. I've made a few extra beauties because maybe you need some of these grounding things too. It brings me great joy to know that I can help you in this season. As usual link in bio. And it wouldn't be a proper ADHD moment if I didn't show up to the party a day late. π€

Stoney Scrapyard, opens Friday October 1st. This collection is all about cleansing the pallet. Wasting not one bit of the scraps of other things. Twisting, mixing, pressing and watching the magic unfold. As these colors and textures mereged together all these incredibly beautiful shapes emerged. I hope you enjoy these beautiful pieces as much as I do. π
Stoney Scrapyard Micro Collection out Wednesday for newsletter subscribers (link in bio), and releases publicly on Friday. Here's a little sneak peek. π
Something really special in the works. ππ€©
Often I find myself tracing circles on a paper, round and round, over and over. This calming exercise quiets my anxious mind and allows me to think through problems. These Reflection sets mimic that in an earring, repeating circles, cut and pieced together solving for symmetry. Each piece showcasing the light and heavy, dark and light, earth and sky.
A tassel for hope and a garland of green for peace over these arches remind me to step into each day with the tools of grace. Sometimes reminders need to be big so you can see them. So I made this pair a bit bigger to keep the reminder visible.
Lillypad statement horseshoe dangle earrings. These soft and gentle green showstoppers mimic the flowers floating in a pond. Every time I look at these, I feel calm and take a deep breath, ready for the next thing coming.
Deep in the heart of Covid lockdown, during art week my son's preschool curriculum introduced us to the Russian Painter Wassilly Kandinsky. His concentric circles caught my eye and I feel like these chainlink hoops are my little homage to his work. They are the perfect size, small delicate hoop with a gentle interlocking statement.
Hello! I'm Stephanie, my husband is a musician and we live in the wooded hills of middle Tennessee. Currently creating with wobbly hands in the stolen moments between diaper changes, preschool at home, nap time and everything else that makes a home great. I've worn many hats over the years, in the fashion industry, coffee industry, hospitality industry, and this so far has to be my favorite season. My mind is a buzz with creative energy and I'm so excited to share it with you. ππ¦πΏ
Imitation is the highest form of flattery and these Caladium Garden Hoops are my latest attempt at imitating the beauty on my front porch. Each statement hoop is one of a kind and I've paired them as closely as I can for symmetry. I love the pinks and greens merging together into the iconic heart shaped caladium leaf, hanging daintily on a golden hoop.
Breathe with me, in: 1-2-3, out: 1-2-3. Now two more times. This simple rhythm helps my young pre-schooler and I calm down when we're too excited, less angry when things don't go our way, and patience when the peanut butter wont spread on the sandwich fast enough. Catch a reflection in the mirror of these breathe studs and remember to take a moment and oxygenate!
I learned a lot this year. When it all feels broken, it doesn't stay that way if you ask for help. These Restore circles remind me that putting it all back together, takes good work, and things will look different on the other side. Different isn't bad, and in the case of these earrings, put back together is just plain beautiful.
One of my favorite sounds in the world is when the ocean crashes into the sand. These wave leave ripples in the sand and this ruffle statement earring is a representation of this. The creamy ripples hang off an array of seaweed. Vivid, unique and the perfect on trend statement.
These shapes remind me of a hug. The deep hues of the brown + black with flecks of shimmery white reminds me of digging in the pots sitting on my front steps. What could be better than a pair of garden hugs? These small studs are simple, yet have enough movement to make a statement. Which one do you like?
