Here are some helpful tips to keep acne prone skin under control this summer!

𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: Swimming pool disinfectants contain iodides and chlorine which can remain in the water, causing skin problems for frequent swimmers. Consider applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly over your sunscreen before you get into the pool.

𝐒𝐮𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞: Although sun exposure damages the follicle, exacerbates
dark spots, and causes skin cancer and premature aging. Limiting this exposure is helpful for clearing acne and maintaining skin health. If being out doors is a must try to opt for earlier in the morning or late evening when the UV index is lower.

𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Let's face it we are going to sweat in this heat! Sweating can cause acne in some people by trapping bacteria, dirt, and oil on the skin, which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. This is especially true if sweat remains on the skin for a long time. Try blotting sweat away with a clean cloth/towel or use a cotton pad with an appropriate toner for your skin type to remove sweat and debris accumulation.

𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Dehydration can cause and exacerbate acne by making skin dry and rough, which can lead to clogged pores and increased oil production. staying hydrated in our AZ heat is a must internally and externally! Up your water intake and incorporate an acne safe hydrating serum or toner to help avoid this.

𝐒𝐏𝐅 𝐔𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞: Use of an acne safe SPF is a must! This will help to protect your skin from cancer and damage while decreasing the amount of time that acne scaring (PIH) is present. Be sure to reapply!
