DI-Why Not
We are just a couple of crazy people that are trying to be debt free and still live the dream.
First project of 2024 complete! Vent hood and light for our stove installed.
Projects this week:
-decorated the house for Christmas
-finished backfilling the last 150ft of septic line
-finished mud in master closet
-cleaned out and reorganized master bedroom to allow access to our dresser.
So we haven't posted about it because well it feels surreal! But we officially moved into our house 2 weeks ago. The house isn't completely done but the kids' rooms are done (minus the closets) and their bathroom. The kitchen is functioning like a normal kitchen and the living room is done minus trim. So that is all we really needed. So we moved in!!! Our foundation was poured late January 2021 and we started framing March 2021. And we officially moved in Halloween 2023. So to say this felt like forever is an understatement. But we are so excited. And can't wait to get the rest of the house finished. Last night we hooked up are washer and dryer and ran our first cycle. The laundry room still has a lot of finishing to do but it is functional.
Got a lot done this weekend. Drywall mostly done in our master bathroom. Cleaned the great room. Cleaned and sealed the kids floors and the closets. We are getting closer and closer to moving in!!!!

Pantry build post. The pantry has been done for a minute, but I was working on the house nearly daily to get it done.
Pantry - Di-Why Not So our pantry was the first room to finish drywalling. Why? You may ask…well because I figured it was a room that would be most forgiving on errors. So that is where we started and learned from our errors. Blocking So because the pantry is obviously going to have lots of shelves and some cabinets....
Cement sealant done in the living area!
Big progress this week!!! We got the beams up in our great room. Thanks to my amazing perfectionist dad they are perfect!!! And we are prepping for the floor treatment. We also installed our living room fan. And we started tiling the kid's shower. Thank you to both our dad's who came out and worked on our house with us!!
Pantry is coming together....
This is the job that never ends. Yes it goes on and on my friends. Some people started it not knowing what it was and they will continue doing it forever just because... this is the job that never ends!
And repeat!!
Drywall... the job that never ends! - Di-Why Not Do you remember the old show “Lambchop” it was kid’s show with the sock puppet named Lambchop? At the end of the show they would sing a song called “The Song that Never Ends” and it looped back on itself and went on forever. The song was great when we were kids and it was … Continue read...
Our septic system is in!!!
Septic - Di-Why Not So one of the big ticket items that we needed to have installed, was septic! And I am not going to lie I was avoiding. It cost allot, we couldn’t do it ourselves, we couldn’t use it until all the plumbing was done anyways, and well it is lots of money to spend on CRAP, … Continue reading "Sept...
Big progress this weekend on the homestead! Franken-coop got a complete reboot and chicks got a new home! The pantry is painted and floors sealed and is now ready to move cabinets in and start the finishing touches!!! And we also sealed the water closet floor. The hubby made big progress on mud and tape and has given the go ahead to start painting the kids bath and is nearly ready in 1 bedroom!!!
Working on the to do list before move in.
"We're excited to share that we're one step closer to completing our dream home! Over the past few weeks, we've been busy installing drywall in our new house ourselves. It's been a lot of hard work, but seeing the progress we've made has been so rewarding.
Installing drywall is no easy feat, but with a little patience and a lot of determination, we're making it happen. We're loving the process of building our home from the ground up, and we can't wait to see it all come together.
Shiplap ceiling done, soon to start finishing our first bathroom!
CJ and I made a huge step forward with the house this week. We had our septic system installed and this weekend we got it hooked up to the house. Now we just have to finish all our plumbing drains and vents and we can install toilets!
