I know things are bigger in Texas. But dang the spider web!! πHappy Halloween
Been a minute since we've posted so here's some pics from this summer. Had 4 hatchings and no pictures πΆ, got rest of the venison out and made jerky in preparation to refill the freezer this seasonπ€π». Our tomato and jalapeno plants went berserk! Lots of salsa and pickled jalapenos in the pantry. Had the Yellowstone prequel film in our little town Square. Battled dang snakes AND Armadillos! Never a dull minute here at High Chaparral! Hope ya'll enjoyed your summer......
So it begins π£π£π₯π₯ππππ
Tis the season π£π₯π₯π₯π£π£π and so it begins.
Today was chick transfer day. "Teenagers" went to the juvenile coop outside and the "Babies" went to the toddler brooder in the pump room. I was running back and forth cleaning/sanitizing water bottles, feeders, spreading shavings, just in my groove. Went to get food out of the shed and saw this out of the corner of my eye. Good thing i didn't have the pistol handy or the tank would have a hole in it!! HE thought it was hilarious...... NO!

Busy weekend! Lots of pickling going on. Ready for the markets! Still have some left to do, but my egg peeler is slow today! Will fill those jars in the morning. Let me know if you want any. Really surprised how good the are! Great healthy snack.
Got that pickling vibe on today! Cajun, Spicy, Habanero, Chipotle done. On deck: Bourbon, Dill, Sweet and Bread & Butter.
It's been a minute since we've posted! Very crazy, busy spring and summer here. Between adjusting to WFH, moving my sister from CA to here and keeping up with the hatchings, time just from away from us! A few pictures we've snapped along the way. The girls are very interested in what's in the pens! They are trying to convince us they just want to play...... riiiiiight! π Collecting eggs I almost tossed the one thinking it was a little pebble, but did a double take and realized it WAS an egg. So we have an overachiever and an underachiever πππ Craig has been working on automatic waters, thinks he has them fine tuned and dang water pressure fluctuates and withers no flow or it floods the pen! I have full faith in him he will get them dialed in! Hope all is well in ya'lls neck of the woods. Stay safe and let us know if you need fresh or pickled eggs, we are stocked up!! @ Granbury, Texas
Seems we have another nest! @ Granbury, Texas
She called for reinforcements! ππ
Oh little Mama that's a lot of eggs you're sittin' on! @ Granbury, Texas
Dear Mother Nature,
I know we need the rain, thank you, but do we have to get it all at once? 4 inches since 11 p.m. is a bit of over kill don'tcha think?
This weather vane was on Craig's dad's barn for years, after he passed he asked our crafty sister Carole if she could bring it back to life. It's new home, on top of the coop.
We just put the last hatch out in the flight pen. They look so tiny next to the big birds, Craig took one look at my face and said, No honey you can't sleep out here with them tonight. π
5 dozen eggs headed out. Can't find eggs in the stores..... good for us π
So excited! Found these little beauties in a shop on Etsy! Love, love, love them!
So it's been an exciting week here ! Someone who shall remain nameless did not securely latch the door to the flight pen! π€¦π»ββοΈ Ring door camera kept going off and after about the 5th time in a row I was getting ready to tell him either stay in or out, but quit going in and out! (He was always telling his boys that). Looked at history and call him, why are there quail on the front porch???? We have rounded all but one Bob White up and a couple of the Gambels. Peanut our first born bring one of them βΉ Peanut is also bilingual! He calls not only in Gambel, but Bob White!
Beautiful forecast this weekend, I get to play in the dirt! Time to get some native grasses planted in the flight pens! My π is happy, my soul is full! ππ±π»πΎπ·πππΉ
Love how Mother Nature has her own schedule. We thought they were going to start hatching Sunday. Nothing even this morning. Craig was gone for about an hour and came back to 23!!
Took a quick trip to Kansas. Pictures from "brother-in-law" . Breakfast of champions made from fresh High Chaparral Gamebirds eggs! Bon appetit!!
The single egg is a normal Coturnix quail egg. The three on top πββοΈππ»ββοΈ. All I can say is OW!!!!
