Just FYI
💥 RACHEL NEEDS YOUR HELP!!💥 She has been at the shelter way too long and is so over it! The shelter has moved her to the back due to her not kenneling well so if you are interested in meeting her, you will have to ask the staff to bring her out. She’s a great dog who just isn’t sheltering well. She turned 6 on 4/06 and would like to celebrate her next one with a loving family. Give her a chance!! 💕
Hi! My name is Rachel and I LOVE playing with other dogs, I love people, and I really LOVE snuggles! I am not found of being here at the shelter so they have me in a quiet room in the back. So make sure you ask one of the great folks at the shelter to bring me out to meet you!! See you soon!

It really doesn’t get any cuter than this! 🛁😍
Chances are that with the strong delicious aromas in the air come Thursday you will have someone rubbing against your legs or the mournful stare aimed your way. It's hard not to give in to their convincing behaviors!! If the wrong foods are given it could lead to an emergency trip to the vet!!!😔 Please be mindful of the foods safe and not safe. In reference to onions or garlic even if just used for flavoring can lead to health issues.
Are your shelters going unused? If your kitty isn't sure about the shelter you've set out for them, here are some TIPS to encourage them to try it out:
▪️Be patient. Some cats need a lot of time to get comfortable with a new shelter.
▪️Loosely fill the shelter ½ to ¾ full of straw, a bedding material very attractive to cats.
▪️Remove any door flaps on the shelter. While doorway flaps help insulate, they should not be added until after your cats are used to going in and out of the shelter.
▪️Do not place food in or near the shelter. Cats instinctively avoid sleeping near food as it attracts other cats and wildlife/predators.
▪️Location is important. Place the shelter where your cats are already hanging out. More feral/less social cats typically want to shelter farther away from humans—the more secluded, the more likely cats are to use it.
▪️Place the shelter near natural cover (as opposed to out in the open) where your cats feel safe. Cats prefer to move along walls, hedges or other natural barriers and boundaries. Place the shelter under or up against a building, fence, tree, porch, bush, or overhang. We sometimes nestle them in the brush in the woods.
▪️Place the shelter with the entrance facing away from the wind, rain and snow. Facing south is best!
▪️Make sure the shelter is on a flat surface and not wobbly. An unsteady shelter could discourage cats from entering.
▪️It’s possible that your cats have another shelter where they feel safe. They may already have a shed, crawlspace or some other shelter they prefer.
▪️When all else fails, try a new location, but only after giving your cats plenty of time to explore and get used to the current location.

THANK YOU to the caregivers who have taken the time to build a feral cat shelter. Protection from the elements is critical, especially during the cold months, and your thoughtfulness will no doubt save many lives this winter.💕

TIPS FOR STAYING COOL IN THE HEAT!
Stay hydrated. The more hydrated you are, the more effective your body will be at keeping you cool. Drink water – not fizzy and alcoholic drinks, those can dehydrate you.
Wear lightweight, light-coloured natural fabrics like cotton and linen, as these will help your skin breathe and let your sweat evaporate, cooling you down.
We sweat around half a pint daily from both feet, so if you can, wear sandals or flip-flops to let your foot sweat evaporate.
Use a fan to circulate air from open windows. Keep your blinds or curtains drawn during the day, so your home doesn’t heat up while you’re out.
While spicy food makes you sweat more, this can be a good thing in the heat, as the sweat helps cool you down. The same goes for hot drinks, but with tea and coffee, make sure you drink lots of water too, as caffeine dehydrates you.
To cool down quickly, run your wrists under a cold tap or keep a water spray in the fridge for a quick cooling spritz to the face.
Keep some wet wipes in your bag so you can freshen up your hands, face and neck if you get hot or clammy.
Wondering how to stay cool at night? One way is to wash your feet in cool water or take a cold shower before bedtime – especially if you get hot during the night or have hot sweats at night.
To cool down in bed, try keeping your pillowcase or sheets in a plastic bag in the fridge during the day. Put them back on the bed at night. The fabric will stay cool when you’re trying to get to sleep.
Have a great summer!!!
