Hey buds, things have been quiet over here. Social media isn’t top of mind for me but regardless, I’ve been spending time on the best project ever, Mx. Fix It itself. One big revelation that came up is that I’m not a business, I’m Danny ✨🙇🏻‍♂️✨
I’ve got a few ideas on how this changes things but you should stick around as I move towards an actual pay it forward platform, start teaching/skill sharing, mix in some of my other skills, and expand this idea of “help” out of a construction zone 💛

Hello, this is Danny 👋 the owner of Mx. Fix It and excuse me, 😳 500? What?

That absolutely snuck up on me. But of course it did because that was all You!

While I’ve been busy doing task for y’all, you’ve been sending folks our way and from the bottom of my heart I can’t thank you enough.

Did you know Mx. Fix It never had a hard launch? We haven’t stopped working since we soft launched in November and we’re so close to being able to officially start building the roster with subcontractors 😅 it’s been crunch time while we go through this growth spurt and I see and appreciate everyone who has met me with compassion and encouragement while I brave all the uncomfortable white cis male dominated areas of handy work to help folks who need it. 💪

But seriously, we’ve been focusing on creating space that isn’t just tolerant but celebratory, pushing local organizations to express their allyship loud and proud, individually helped 40+ people, held office hours where we came together in q***r company, AND we’ve been getting all the boring ducks in a row so we can bring this roster to life. 🤠

In short, we’re proud to work for the lgbtqia+ community and give folks a safe resource all year round 💪🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Our homes have a way of capturing moments in time. Including moments we’d rather forget.

Growing up, I (Danny 👋) remember learning to live with the little marks, dents, and holes, from years prior that at a glance told a tumultuous story. It didn’t seem like fixing it was an option. We just lived inside a scrapbook.

Feeling empowered to erase painful memories can help leave those reminders in the past for good. Your home should be able to evolve just as quickly as you 🌱

We are working towards a pay it forward type program where if we have extra materials from previous jobs we can offer discounts to people who need it.

So, make sure you’re transparent about your budget when filling out a request form and we’ll try to meet you where you are. And anyone who can contribute, this is where community support and donations come in handy!

Whenever something feels awkward to me I like to just say it out loud, bring it into the light and then give it a good gut punch. 🥊 This time it’s the follow back.

TLDR - thank you for all the patience, kind words, and flexibility in scheduling while I’ve been away taking care of my pops.

Did you know that when you recover from a detached retina you are required to be physically face down for a full week?

It doesn’t even sound like a real thing. But that’s what happened to my dad. It’s been a lot to adapt to but he’s doing well and things are … well, I was gonna say looking up 😅

Taking time to reflect on how things usually go around the holidays can help you set new boundaries or better anticipate some family quirks that you may have forgotten about.

If you’re anxiously tracking a package that’s going to arrive late, take a piece of paper and simply write down what the gift is. Then, wrap your homemade “gift card” and your intentions will be clear.

You can’t pour from an empty cup ☕️
This one is particularly hard, but if you’re not in a good place to buy gifts, try to stay strong and resist. Put yourself first! You are your strongest advocate.

Winterizing your home doesn’t have to be scary. A little bit goes a long way, especially in these older Grand Rapids homes.

Some renter-friendly 🔥heat saving🔥options are:
- Adding door sweeps to stop drafts
- Insulating your outlets
- Reversing the direction of your ceiling fans
- Switching out or adding insulated curtains
- Adding plastic covers to less used windows

Empowering Renter Tip✨
If heat is included in your lease, your apartment must stay at least 68° by law. If you’re feeling chilly, get a cheap thermometer that takes 2 readings a day to track and back yourself up when talking to your landlord about the temps. 🥶

A landlord may recommend buying a space heater 💩While it will keep you warm, it isn’t a solution for poor heating and shifts the responsibility and costs on to you.
