Six reps is always better than zero. There is no law that says you must to 12 reps per set for every exercise.

Closed chain exercises like this handstand pushup are considered more beneficial than open chain exercises, such as a lateral shoulder raise. Typically the closed chain movements target multiple joints and muscle groups. Functionally, the movement of a closed chain will also cause every other joint to move in a predictable fashion, which is not the case with open chain movements. In addition, the closed chain is better at improving dynamic balance. All of this translates into more bang for your buck. And in case you are wondering, yes, I was too far away from the wall when I did this. But, no, I did not hurt myself.

I always ask my patients if they exercise. I find it interesting that, of those who do weight training, most of them say the same thing. They say “Yes, I do weights, but not heavy!” As if heavy weights are automatically bad. Lighter weights are ok to start with, but I fear they may not be challenging themselves. Don’t be reckless. But don’t artificially limit yourself. Listen to your body. Today my body said it could incline press 110lb dumbbells for 1 rep. So I did.
