When you book your extended family session, I ask that you give me the names of all of those who will be photographed. Prior to your session, I make sure that I have all the groupings of the individual family units that make up your group matched up so that I can photograph each family, the whole group and the generation levels. By knowing who all is being photographed prior to our session, you can rest that we will have everyone photographed in all the groups to help you remember your session. If there are any special pairs or groups you want photographed, just say the word! Is a child named after a grandparent? Let's make sure that we have them photographed together. Do certain cousins play on the same baseball team? Let's photograph them together. Your family tells a story exactly how you are and I want to tell that story through photographs.

Back to School Personality Mini Sessions are August 10 and 11 in Grapevine. Get your back to school photos done before the crazy of the first day of school. I use a simple background to truly highlight the change that you will see in your child from the first day of school to the last.

Where should I do my indoor photos this summer?

A simple, modern approach to family photos.

The same style that I use for school portraits can be used for family sessions, too. I can bring this set up to your home or you can come to my Grapevine locations to let your family be the star of the show. We will laugh, snuggle and smile as your family creates classic images with a modern approach. The love you have in your family will be the center of the images we create. When that love is so strong, the background doesn't matter! I will use a gray or white background with beautiful light to create these timeless images that your family can look back on for years to come.

Items for your comfort

After we get some more stationary poses, we are going to be moving around to create some dynamic sports portraits. You'll want to make sure that you bring some water and a towel, especially if we are outside in North Texas! Even inside, we want to make sure you are safe and hydrated first and foremost! If you are someone that gets a little hangry, maybe pack a little snack so that you have tons of energy to give your best for these portraits to remember all of the times that you've left it all out on the field or court.

A positive attitude

When I was playing soccer and lacrosse, the hardest thing for me to do was get out of my own head and believe that I had put the work in and would be able to perform to the best of my ability. I still can struggle with this when I run races. All that being said, the mental game of sports can sometimes be the hardest. For these photos, we are going to have fun. We are going to celebrate those hours of practices, those countless sprints from the line, and the sacrifices you have made to grow as an athlete and a human. With all things, a positive attitude makes the world of difference. I will guide you every step of the way and we will work together to created timeless images of you doing what you love.

Where should I do my indoor photos this summer?

Rent a studio

If you really do not want to do photographs in your own home, we have the option to rent a studio. I use studios in Roanoke and Bedford that are lovely and homey. You will have timeless photos that celebrate what makes your family unique just as you are. There is a cost to renting studios and this is passed on to you. Most studios are anywhere from $50-$100 per hour depending on the day of week and timing. Because I have a clear plan for our session, we will not need more than an hour! Sometimes, extended families need a little more space than a home will allow and studios are a great option for a larger group. If you do want to rent a studio, just reach out when you book and we can discuss the location and I will let you know the times we have available in studio.

Where should I take my indoor photos this summer?

Be comfortable in your own home

As a bit of a home body, not having to even leave my house for family photos sounds awesome. I will bring everything to you, so all you need to do is get ready and relax and enjoy some family time. When I arrive, I will walk around to find the best spot for photos (unless you already had a spot in mind). My favorite spots tend to be where the whole family can cuddle together. For immediate family sessions, this often looks like a big bed or couch. For extended family sessions, we will often use a living room or dining room. I want to find the spots where your family, no matter its size, gathers to enjoy one another. There is no need to clean. I will make sure that any clutter is out of frame or I will move it. I bring my lights with me to every session to ensure that you will have beautiful light for you photos no matter what the weather does outside.

Props and Accessories

Are you known for your killer shades on the field? Have you medalled in every event this year? Bring those awards and accessories that show off your accomplishment and your sense of style. Now I am really in denial that this is the last week of the school year!

Over the summer, if I want to go for a run, I have to be home before the sun gets too high in the sky to stay safe. My kids take forever to fall asleep because "if the sun's awake, then I'm awake." The long days of summer make for some amazing memories, but if there are young kids in your family being photographed, then moving our session indoors can let us do the session when they are at their best, not when the sun's at its best or safest for summer heat. We can time your session for well before the dinner and bedtime rush to let everyone have a more relaxing experience and enjoy this time spent together as family.

Your Equipment

Every sport has things that you use to play the game. If you are a lacrosse player, bring your pads, ball, stick, goggles. You can leave the mouth guard at home, though! Baseball and softball players, make sure to bring your bat, glove, ball and hat. Tennis and pickle ball athletes, you wouldn't be able to do much without a racquet. Soccer, Volleyball, and Basketball, please make sure you bring a ball. Even runners, you need to bring your spikes or favorite race shoes. If you use it to play your game, please bring it to your session!

How on earth is this the second to last week of school already?? Didn't we just start?

In all of the end of the year activities, it can be a little crazy to already be thinking about next year, but if you are already working on next year's calendar, please let me know when you want to schedule school photo day! The busy months of September, October, March and April fill up really quick, so snag your spot before you get out for summer break!

When we were considering a move back to Texas, one of the things that scared me the most was living through Texas summers again. Summer is such a great time to take family photos, especially extended family photos, but the reality is that North Texas gets very hot over the summer. This does not mean you need to skip out on family photos this summer.

When you take the time to book a professional photographer for your immediate or extended family photo session, you are also going to take the time to style your hair, do your make up and pick out specific outfits for your family. Granted, I'm a pretty simple woman when it comes to these things year round, but I cannot stand having make up melt off my face outside in the summer heat. Let's take all that time you put in to getting ready for your photo session and stay a little more comfortable in the heat by being indoors.

Your Uniform

You will need to bring your uniform. If you have a home and away jersey, make sure you bring both so we can do a few different looks if needed. If we are doing a team session, please consult as a team to make sure everyone is on the same page about which uniform you'll be wearing down to the details on hat, belt, sock, etc., color.

What time of day is best for Sports Portrait Sessions?

Once again, this is a bit sports specific. For indoor sports, we can do the session anytime of day that the facility is available. Outdoor sessions can be a little trickier, but we can create amazing images anytime of day. My preference is to do outdoor sessions first thing in the morning (especially in North Texas Summers!) or in the evening right before the sun goes down. We want to avoid mid-day outdoors, but we can make it work if we have to. Your games and practice sessions don't wait for perfect conditions, but for your photos we want this to be an enjoyable experience to create lasting, timeless images of you doing what you love.

Where will my Sports Portrait session be held?

This all depends on your sport. If you play a field sport like soccer, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, football, etc., we're going to want to go to your fields. For indoor sports like volleyball, basketball, swimming, etc., we want to photograph you in your element, too, so we'll need a court or pool. You will need to contact your league or school to make sure we can photograph at their facilities. This can be tricky with practice and game schedules, but we can work together to find a time that works for us and the facility.
