This event is for any student who wants to start at Mid-State for the Fall 2024 semester and wants to use their veteran benefits to pay for their education. At this event, prospective students will work with our local CVSOs, our Veterans Advisor, and members of our Admissions and Enrollment team.

Meet Denise Elzie, a current Semper Forward Hiring Our Heroes Fellow and an active-duty Manpower Analyst for Air Mobility Command headquarters for the United States Air Force. She will soon retire after 20 years of military service and is seeking her next mission.

Throughout Denise's military career, she has held different roles as an engine and aircraft mechanic with HH-60s—Helicopter Combat Rescue Unit. She has deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq and served multiple training assignments. During her tenure, she has also been promoted to leadership roles. Most recently, she moved to a manpower analyst role to learn a new set of skills in data analytics.

In her forthcoming military retirement, Denise looks forward to starting a new adventure with purpose and making a difference in the world. She also enjoys helping people and volunteers at her local American Legion chapter to help veterans and their families find resources and extend camaraderie through different generations of military affiliation.

We're happy to introduce Cpl. David Munoz Bucio, one of Semper Forward's current SkillBridge Fellows.

David imagined becoming a Marine in high school, but as he says, "stuff happens in life," and he didn't enlist until a few years later. Starting his military career during COVID, David was first stationed at the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force located in Indian Head, Maryland, a unit even his schoolhouse instructors weren't initially aware of. During his service, he has taken on increased responsibility and leadership positions, gaining rich experience, learning to work under pressure and, importantly, helping other Marines grow and succeed.

"What I enjoyed the most from my service was being able to mentor and train Marines and seeing them succeed and grow as leaders," David told us. "I am going to miss leading young Marines and looking out for their welfare -- out of everything that's what mattered the most to me."

Wisconsin economy, down for past three quarters, among top 20 fastest growing in Q3

Wisconsin’s real GDP grew at a 5% annualized rate between the second and third quarters, making it the 18th fastest growing economy in the country during the period, according to the latest estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. It was the best growth rate among nearby states, outpacing Indiana, 4.8%, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota, all at 4.1%, and Michigan, up 2.9%. Retail trade was a big driver of growth for the state, adding 1.49 percentage points to growth. Nondurable goods manufacturing and 0.73 points and construction added 0.69 points.
