Pastor Roy Dockery
(1) building disciples, (2) developing the
character and skills of youth and young adults for effect
Using the experiences of life and the gifts that God has blessed us with to deliver an inspirational message to the world. Whether in the form of music, video, film, production or promotion we are driven by a desire to fulfill our calling as disciples of Jesus Christ and unashamed of our message that is the story of our continued salvation. We are imperfect participants in God’s perfect plan with a hope to allow God to use us to make our communities and this world a better place.

I was fortunate to have an awesome group of colleagues, friends and mentees read the book as a first draft. After receiving their feedback I restructured the book, added more narrative stories, and reduced the reflection questions creating a book that was focused on the same topics but 75% different than the first draft. Bobbi Jamriska is one of those people who took the time read the first draft that helped lead to the latest version available for early access, and pre-order today at:

The greatest responsibility I have as a leader is to lead my family. God gave me an amazing wife Nikeenah Dockery that has encouraged, inspired and remained confident in my leadership. That's why my new book The Art of Leading is actually dedicated to my wife. She didn't know it until she started reading the final draft, but you are the very definition of a Good Thing. Leadership starts at home Clarissa Brown Mayia Warren and the family in front of our missions statement. LOVE, EQUITY, TRUTH AND SERVICE are our CORE VALUES.

If I had to summarize my book by style, it's like a collection of leadership short stories from Patrick Lencioni with the direct application of Crucial Conversations ® and the leadership style of Ken Blanchard with the occasional Jerry Seinfeld Show Quote. The way that we react to an issue sets the tone for how people trust us in the future with their failures. I tell everyone that I mentor that great leaders don't have to catch people doing wrong because your employees will tell you where they fail instead of trying to hide it.
Two years ago a decent amount of money came up missing from my bedroom and my son often watches TV in there so I asked him if he saw it, and he said yes and that he took it. If I'm honest I wanted to snap. My children get whatever they ask for, and are great students, and servants. But I took a deep breath and remembered that I encouraged my children to always tell the truth.
As the leader of my family I set an expectation and my son responded to that. The Art of Leading is not just about how we manage employees but how we live life and use Love to moderate our actions.

Poetic Reflection 12.4.23
How do we measure success?
Is it by the notches of elevation on a resume
Or the inflation of value to a job title we receive
Is it our individual contribution
Or the teams that we lead
And does your measure of success have to matter to me?
I believe success is personal
And just a word that means
I'm fulfilling a purpose that was designed just for me
Therefore I can't compare my success to my neighbors
We all have unique gifts, where our wisdom and favor
Will grant us achievements, when we diligently labor
True success can only be measured by peace
That you feel when you know you are fulfilling the need
That you were uniquely created to see.
Chapter 36-39 were centered on the Savage Truth. Podcast, music and a book wrestling with crucial conversations and personal identity. The Savage Truth era created new relationships and helped me better form and articulate my opinions and identify.
Chapter 40 was about understanding my value and the impact that God has allowed me to have in every sphere of influence. Impact, Impress, Imprint was the subtitle that allowed me to narrow my focus and better identify my strengths.
Today, Chapter 41 begins. This next series of chapters will be focused on The Art of Leading, and How impactful leaders use truth, love and empathy in action. It will include a best selling book, global speaking engagements, and the opportunity to influence leaders across the globe.
Today I get to spend time with my amazing family Nikeenah Dockery and for the first time in I don't know how many years I get to celebrate my birthday with my mother Clarissa Brown present. I'm posting early so I can disconnect a bit and start this new chapter grounded in God's word, Family and peace. I'm excited to see what God writes in this chapter.
Poetic Reflection 11.29.23
As you approach another milestone, we tend to check the tank.
Life's journey has many stops, but how much fuel does it take?
Do we trust the gauge to give us feedback?
How do you know for sure you can make it?
The amazing thing about our creation, is that our exhalation is a sign of energy
So as long as I can breathe I can proceed and my tank is not empty
A car can be fully functioning but incapable of moving without fuel.
A call phone can be capable of making call with no juice
But as humans, as long as we can breathe, we can do
Our "do" will be different, which is why comparison kills
Our lives can feel empty when we refuse to leverage our skills
Be fueled by your purpose, and you will never waste a breath
Because everyday has a new challenge and we should never fear what's next
Poetic Reflection 11.21.23
The antonym of thanks is condemnation, not "No Thank You"
The opposite of appreciation is disregard
So is it possible that you lack of thanks giving is leaving others feeling
Condemned and Disregarded
I don't mean the collateral salutations
Or the acknowledgements of service provided
But do we genuinely show thanks and appreciation
for those that provide for us
Provide peace, provide safety, provide love, provide hope
Provide happiness, provide prayer, provide joy, provide close
Relationships create community that support in trying times
But how often do we say thank you to the people by our side
This isn't for the season, but for daily reflection
Don't let your lack of giving thanks
Leave those close feeling rejected
Poetic Reflection 11.17
Who checks on the well being of the reliable friend?
The person who is always available, patient, and sacrificial.
Who checks on the well being of the friend who seems to be doing well?
The person who is financially stable, never needs to borrow and owes no debt.
Who checks on the well being of the friend who suffers in quiet?
We all have issues, we all have pain, we all have shortcomings, and we all need a wellness check.
Check on the person who never asks for help but is always willing to give it.
We are often offering to others what we wish someone would offer to us.
Seasons are synonymous with transition, and the reason many people feel stuck.
We are designed for transition so stagnation is uncomfortable.
When the leaves change, and the temperature drops we remember our summer to-do list that's still not complete.
At the end of the year when the ball drops, we remember the resolution from January that we didn't follow through with.
When seasons change we become reminded of our complacency, and it shines light on our lack of self-improvement or self-development.
Promises will be broken, initiatives will fail, and time will move forward, but in every season make sure you are pursuing change.
Stagnation is often the fruit of a fear of failure.

Poetic Reflection 11.9.23
Ever wonder if your care/concern is just control in disguise?
Am I concerned for your safety or just want to control when you cry?
Do we tell our children to slow down for their safety, or because we don't want to expense the energy to keep up?
Do we avoid telling our spouses the truth (white lies) because we care or because we have learned to constrain their emotions?
True care should be rooted in love, and not in control.
True Care is selfless and sacrificial.
Poetic Reflection 11.8.23
I am uncomfortable with comfort.
Like settling into a soft chair until your weight encounters the wood frame.
Resting in the impression of the weight of stagnation like a boulder settles into the dirt.
Momentum comes from remaining in motion so I continue to push forward and challenge my own complacency.

I try to never be in a hurry. Not because I don't value my time, but to mindful of observing the experiences I am present in. Have you ever just stopped to take in a scene and recognize the melody of city songs creating a soundtrack of the backdrop of nature, architecture and technology that surrounds you. When we hurry we are often so focused on our destination that we miss the beauty of the small things along the journey that could add joy, curiosity, and newness to each day. Slow down, and admire something that you missed yesterday. Adobe Express to Graphics
Poetic Reflection 11.3.23:
Steady. In a world driven by superficial movement, quick success, and microwave results we tend to ignore the steadfast.
We take for granted the foundations that support all of our whims and temporary thoughts.
Steady. The roads that support your last minute trip, or impulsive shopping spree.
Steady. Remember that you are a part of someone else's foundation, a vital part of their equation so when you move its never without impact.
For the last few weeks I adjusted my morning routine to include written prayers, praise reports, resonating questions and a poetic reflection for the day. I love to write so I have decided to share my daily poetic reflections and allow generative AI to create the graphic each day by just feeding it the words. So here is my Poetic Reflection for November 2nd:
Patience, not just the ability to wrestle with this manmade concept of time that is the product of a clocks mechanisms.
Patience, is the eternal struggle between our desires and the timing of Gods ultimate outcome.
Patience, requires trust, self-control and humility to resist the allure of putting our own stamp of completion on what should be God's finished work. Patience, is waiting for God to say it is done my good and faithful servant.

Its comfortable to fit in, to not draw attention, to not be distinct. But our individual strengths and differences are the things that collectively lead to innovation, inclusion, and diversity. You sense of humor, style of dress, favorite music, quirks, hobbies, and passions can all be powerful catalysts for seeing a problem in a new way. But we often assimilate, blend in, and try not to stand out. We keep our differences tucked into our company uniforms, and deny the world the beauty of our Authentic selves. At the end of the day I would rather be rejected while being my authentic self, than to be accepted while assimilating.
Last Month I had the Privilege of delivering a Keynote Speech at Service Council™ Smarter Services Symposium on the Culture Journey organizations must face to address the DEI imperative. Several people shared with me directly that it was one of the most impactful presentations they had ever scene. So The Service Council provided me with the video, and I am sharing with my broader network, and for those that attended that would like to see it again. Thanks again Lin Wilson for the great live illustration that I used for the thumbnail

The Official placard, still a bit surreal to travel to the Europe and be recognized as a Global Visionary. Guess its time for me to keep bringing some of those visions to reality professionally, personally, and spiritually.
Over the years I have had probably hundreds of conversations with employees, mentees and friends about what the "next" move will be. Whether they were artists, entrepreneurs, executives, Pastors, or community organizers they often had an idea of what they were reaching for next. I would often tell them to focus on their weaknesses because elevation makes you a more clear target. Being at the top of the totem pole makes it easier for people to take a shot. So build your integrity, authenticity, and resolve now, so that what you've been praying for doesn't actually break you when you receive it.
