We service all brands and it is important to know what is going on in the HVAC industry with HCFC R 22 being phased out in 2020 by the environmental protection agency. To protect the ozone layer R 22 will no longer be available after 2020 and the price this summer will be around $200 per pound.
Make sure your system does not have any leaks because the average system holds about 10 pounds of refrigerant. If you have a leaking R 22 system, just the refrigerant could cost you upwards of $2000. So yes sometimes it is more cost effective to just replace the old unit with a new unit that uses HFC R 410A which does not have an adverse effect on the environment.
