Ronnie Waddell was admitted to Encompass Health Greenville following a stroke. His goals for rehabilitation were to get back to working independently outside around his home. He specifically wanted to be able to complete projects on a ladder. Knowing this, his therapy team helped him safely climb a ladder while performing tasks such as hammering a nail as part of his rehabilitation. He has made tremendous progress, and we are so proud of him! Our goal with Ronnie and all our patients is to help them get back to those activities that matter most to them, so we design a care plan according those unique goals. Nearly 20 years after having his spleen removed, 34-year-old Jim Murray couldn’t fight off a bacterial-infection. “I ended up having six surgeries in six weeks,” Jim shared. “I didn’t know I needed extra vaccinations which would have prevented this, and I’ve talked to a couple other people who have lost their spleens, and they had no idea either,” Jim mentioned. “There are just a couple different vaccines that you need to get per the CDC.” Jim says while the information is easily found in a Google search, he had no idea. Now a quadruple amputee, Jim is learning to walk again. From standing, to stepping, to one day running– Jim keeps moving forward. So does his family, everyone is adapting to new circumstances, even the boys. Jim and Danielle credit their support team and all the healthcare workers at Encompass Health in Greenville who have helped them throughout this journey. Our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) committee asked staff to wear green shirts and pins in recognition of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and organized a walk to promote the importance of mental clarity and stress relief. Michael is a local police officer who was admitted to Encompass Health Greenville after a hospitalization due to COVID-19 where he was only given a ten percent chance of living.
