This was a fun challenge. It took a lot of detailed layout and careful engineering to make this reality. 3D design software is really valuable on a project like this to help you see how all the angles will come together but in the end a well engineered design only works if you have the craftsmen to pull it off. I met with and crew onsite one time, went over the design with them and they made it happen!

From concept to reality. After initially designing this based on designers inspiration picture, I sent it over to the design team at for approval. After a couple revisions to dial in the size of the corbels, we sent it to the shop where took my skematics, and turned it all into reality.
3D modeling on the computer is such a helpful tool to get the scale of things just right. I use to do all of my designing. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it is very intuitive once you get the hang of it.

It's plaid season! I love working with great design teams like who bring us exciting new concepts to build!
I debated about building this from solid stock but was worried about finding material that would finish at 2" thick and would be truly dry enough that it wouldn't shrink and twist over time.... so yes, these are 2"x9" box beams!
knocked this tricky little install out of the park! Everything lined up beautifully and should stay that way for many years.

I have never liked can lights on high ceilings. I prefer indirect lighting whenever possible so when it came time to build my own house the white oak box beams gave us the perfect place to add uplighting and indirectly light up the main living room. We have been moved in now for about 3 months and have really started to love this space! We still need to find some artwork for the walls but are very happy with how everything turned out!

This is where all the magic happens! ..... and sweat, and blood, and tears, and mistakes, and victories, and frustrations, and laughs, and craftsmanship, and teaching, and learning, and attention to detail happens.....and did I mention sweat?.... actually now that I think about it there really isn't any magic involved. Only hard work and people who care about what they do!
Our box beam mantels are perfect for hanging lights or stemware over a bar! Light and easy to hang yet plenty strong enough to hold the weight of lights and glasses
Come see these beams in person at the new over at .station and enjoy some amazingly unique foods and wines and support a good cause. Keipi is a non profit restaurant that supports . Seriously the wines and food here are exceptional!
The scale of this ceiling is hard to capture in picture. The side walls are over 20' and it is around 30' to the peak! Today I topped it off with the steel tie rods that were custom fabricated by .fabrication25.
and did an excellent job tackling this install. Yes, just two guys installed all these beams!

Dark Walnut stain on pine..... a perfect combination. This was a project we completed about a year ago that I never posted pictures of. These trusses are suspended off the ceiling by the perlin beams and ridge beam.
Another great job by making these matching wrap around mantels. These are box beam mantels that feature a bridle joint on the corners! Mind blowing craftsmanship go into making these look like solid timbers! 🤯.
There was a day when I wouldn't let anybody else do the mantels other than myself because nobody was going to do them as good as I could. Demands of business eventually forced me to begrudgingly give it up and turn over mantels to my brother...
Now I don't think I could hold a candle to the level of craftsmanship he is putting into these mantels. It is amazing what happens if you get out of the way and give other people the room to grow!
There was a lot of offsets and ceiling changes to work around on this one but the beams tied it all up in one neat bow for an impressive finished result.
