French at Furman University

We loved celebrating the 2024 grads today! Félicitations, c’est bien mérité!!

Congrats to French majors Kayla Burrell ‘25 and Nicole Warren ‘24 on their induction into Phi Beta Kappa. On est fier de vous!!

This afternoon, the French students met with Clara one last time for this academic year to play some games! We played Tabou and Loup Garou (Mafia like game). Ce n’est qu’un aurevoir!!

We had a blast meeting prospective students at Furman Forward today! Thank you 😍

Yesterday, the French House met at Dr.Brown’s house to make some Croque Monsieur! We had a lot of fun and played a guessing game, where you can only use monosyllabic word. It was challenging but very funny.

The last “Café avec les profs” of the academic year was a blast! Bonne chance avec la fin du semestre et les examens!!

Tonight the French program inducted this year’s new members and honorary members in the Rho Epsilon chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the national French Honor Society ! Merci Dr. Allen for your inspirational speech and to Dr. Bessy for moderating the ceremony! Social thanks to the Bergman Saxophone Quartet at Furman! Merci à tout le monde d’être venu! Today, for our unit on nature and the environment, students in FRN-214 “French Conversation” discussed the representations of animals in French-language children’s book. They found that the messages conveyed (resilience, staying with family to avoid danger, friendship, etc.) were quite universal but also noticed some interesting cultural differences (architecture, champagne as a remedy for a sick cow, etc.)!

We loved meeting Meryem Sekkate, Program Officer Educational Affairs at the French Consulate in Atlanta, today! She fell in love with Furman’s campus and learned all about our French program. We look forward to collaborating on many exciting projects! Thank you Nicole Warren ‘24 and Clara Coment for joining us on the tour! We should have taken more pictures!

We had such a blast at tonight’s couscous event! Merci à toutes et tous pour une très bonne soirée 😍

Improv day!
Today, Dr. Salmon’s FRN120 we did some improv! We had 25 minutes to prepare a conversation on what’ve learned since the beginning of the semester! Every group did super well! Thanks to Dr.Salmon, Clara, and the students for this fun morning.

We loved hosting Annabelle, Lara, and Vincent, three Christ Church Episcopal high school students as well as their teacher, Taron Ware, yesterday! They attended Dr. Bessy’s FRN-214, Dr. Brown’s FRN-411, and enjoyed a DH lunch with students. We know they’ll be awesome French students whichever college they decide to attend 😍
