Greenville SC Uber & Lyft

Greenville SC Uber & Lyft

I would like this to be a place for rideshare drivers in upstate South Carolina to be able to encourage and help each other.

Tips and tricks would be great, but generally, I just want us to leave each other better than we found each other.

Today has been a little tougher than I’m used to Monday being. I usually like to have hit my daily goal by 6 PM to 7 PM and looks like I might have to go a little past that if I wanna make my numbers.

How’s everyone else doing today?

Looks like we got some good surges this morning!

Tips for driving Uber and Lyft in Greenville SC

1. On weekdays get downtown early in the AC hotel area by 5am. It puts you right in the middle of about five major hotels that have a lot of business travelers. Airport runs out of downtown have about an 80% tip, attachment rate on comfort and XL. Saturday mornings are generally not worth it unless you want to drive UberX and regular Lyft. That said after about 11 AM or so it really picks up and there’s people going all over the place for different events.

2. Use the same area as your hub throughout the day. The short rides from hotel to hotel or hotel to restaurant or restaurant to hotel have high tip attachments and the dollar to mile ratio is always pretty high. Usually you will be paid five dollars plus for a 2 to 5 mile ride including pick up.

3. These rides are highly available from about 4 PM to 7 PM.

4. If your vehicle allows for it, turn off UberX and Uber eats and only do comfort and XL. Again, these rides have a much higher tip attachment rate.

5. Also, use Lyft the same way if possible. Be aware that Lyft has generally less quality rides in the Greenville market. You won’t get as many but sometimes they have good ones. You just have to be very picky with them. Lift also has a feature that is not used very often, but the writer can choose a priority pick up and these rides pay extremely high. I’ve had $50 trip with a $20 tip before because some pilots had to get to the private terminal at GSP. I picked them up at the Hilton on Haywood Road and took them out to the terminal And the whole thing only took me about 20 minutes.

5. There are two times a year that are very very slow. It’s January through the middle of February and then the entire time that school is out. The teachers and bus drivers start driving part time and they saturate the market. Make sure you plan for these times and save extra money if you need it to get you through those times.

6. During these times, you are going to have to turn on UberX and regular Lyft to get enough volume to make any money.

7. Greenville is a popular tourist destination and nightlife hotspot. You can make a lot of money after 9 PM however be aware there is a lot of drinking that goes on. It’s not as rowdy as in other places, but it is something to take into consideration.

8. Do not wait at the airport. Most of the time you will be waiting there for an hour plus and you will make more money if you leave and drive over to 85 and Pelham Road. At that point you can turn on UberX and regular Lyft if you need to to get a quick ride back to downtown so you can get your miles paid for getting back to your hub.

9. When it gets real busy at night, set your app to turn off after you drop the person off for the short rides. It will help force surges to happen and many times they might be a half mile from where you drop the person off you just need to drive into the surge and turn the app back on.

10. Clemson is an option when school comes back in. Be aware that people request to be picked up in places that you cannot drive into and it could be pretty frustrating. Also, the college students are a little rowdier down there so you’re going to be dealing with that. Personally, I don’t go do it, but there are some people that have figured it out and make good money there.

11. Don’t be afraid of the ferment students. The school is very strict about behavior and believe it or not. They are very respectful and I get tipped pretty well when I’m doing XL and comfort trips with them. It’s actually kind of unbelievable. You will hear horror stories about every other college area, but Furman students yet in trouble if they cause problems so I have found that they are actually pretty respectful of the vehicle and the driver. That said also be aware if you drive them back up to the campus many times you won’t get a ride back and they are deadhead miles. The trip up and down 25 can be pretty congested sometimes. Use Bumcombe to get up there instead of 25 and the same thing to get back. There are about four or less stoplights and it’s roughly the same miles.

12. Anytime there is an event at the wellness Arena or the amphitheater down in Simpsonville you can make pretty good money working those, especially the arena downtown. Just decline anything that takes you out of the downtown area and keep doing the rides from the hotels over to the arena. same applies as the other stuff if you decide to take them away from the arena sometimes they can be pretty drunk and personally I don’t like to deal with it. I will take them over to the arena as much as they want though.

There are a bunch of other things I’m not thinking of right now, but I’ll add them as time goes on.
