Standing tall. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ If you've been to Unity Park recently you've seen the structural core of the Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower rising 120 feet in the air, in between Meadowbrook Green and the future Mayberry Park baseball field. The tower's steel insides were delivered in two pieces this week and welded together in midair. Construction is expected to be complete around this time next year! Taking the STAGES. 🎭🎢 The South Carolina New Play Festival is curtains up in #GreenvilleSC for year 3, with more variety, more shows, more venues and more big stars. The festival, started by husband and wife Broadway producers with dozens of credits each, draws casting agents and show runners from across the country to watch new works and scout talent. With word spreading in the industry and among theater goers, many of the shows are sellouts. But, they've expanded to include FREE outdoor shows at Falls Park. Plus, Greenville native and Tony Award Winner Phillip Boykin-The Boy Can Entertain will do a ticketed performance to close the fest tomorrow night. We made significant pedestrian safety upgrades near 10 school campuses, installing 63 new ramps, repairing 528 square yards of sidewalk and putting in 59 new high-visibility crosswalks. Split by a state highway nearly 75 years ago, now surrounded by new development around County Square, City planners spent the past 7 months working with Haynie-Sirrine residents, business owners and stakeholders to develop a plan to preserve neighborhood character, protect open space, provide affordable housing and create connectivity. Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park gained altitude when SC STEEL LLC delivered two 60-foot-tall frames that will be welded together in mid-air to form the tower's core tomorrow. Eventually standing 125 feet tall, with the observation tower around 100 feet in the air, the tower honoring first responders and our veterans is expected to open in 2025.
